Laikipia K9s started in 2016, is a small farm based company dedicated in breeding Beagles and South African Boerboels. Our hobby started off way back in 2009 when we purchased our first two Boerboels as pets. As time passed with the two we got our very first litter and it was a bundle of joy. As the years passed by we decided to take our hobby to the next level and dedicated our time to improve o
n this wonderful breed in Kenya. It was until now the droopy beagles came in the picture, we saw this as an opportunity to introduce Beagles to Kenya, being the first two registered Beagles from champion Bloodlines in Kenya. Our dogs all live together in a pack on a 33 acrea farm situated near the Lolldaiga Hills, Timau, Laikipia. Our dogs live in a homely environment, with lots of space to roam and explore as farm dogs do. Its is our determination to breed the best of both breeds from established well known bloodlines. Our Boerboels
Historically the Boerboel developed as a general farm dog for the pioneers who settled in South Africa since the seventeenth century. These dogs often were a first line of defence against predators and were valuable in tracking and holding down wounded game. Old farmers told many a tale of the strength, agility and courage of the Boerboel. The dangers and harsh conditions of southern Africa allowed only the fittest to survive. The protective character of the Boerboel is today still evident and is much sought after, as is the calm, stable and confident composure of the breed. It remains the guarding breed of choice amongst current day farmers and is also very popular for the same reason in the urban communities. The origin and purpose of the Boerboel should be understood in order to preserve the unique identity and qualities of the breed as a South African developed mastiff. Type, conformation, functional efficiency and mentality are equally important in the evaluation of the Boerboel as a whole. We have currently 1 stud male, 2 females and an upcoming Stud male from top Bloodlines in South Africa. Our Beagles
The Beagle is a breed of small hound that is similar in appearance to the much larger foxhound. The beagle is a scent hound, developed primarily for hunting hare. With a great sense of smell and superior tracking instinct, the beagle is employed as detection dog for prohibited items, and as a tracking dog which would be very crucial to help in wildlife conservation. The beagle is intelligent but single-minded. It is a popular pet due to its small size, good temper, and lack of inherited health problems. Although beagle-type dogs have existed for 2,500 years, the modern breed was developed in Great Britain around the 1830s from several breeds, including the Talbot Hound, the North Country Beagle, the Southern Hound, and possibly the Harrier. We currently have a breeding pair, 'Sylvester' our male is tri-colour and 'Honey' our female tan-white, these two are very crucial to introduce the Beagle breed to Kenya.
