Sanctuary Farm

Sanctuary Farm A much loved Wildlife Conservancy on the shores of Lake Naivasha. Our cows roam the meadows and are still milked by hand in an old fashioned dairy.

Sanctuary Farm is a unique paradise, one can walk or ride at close proximity to herds of wildebeest, impala, zebras and giraffe and much more. The night brings it's own life and sounds. The farm was originally bought by Francis Erskine in the 70’s who was passionate about horses and put in the polo ground, stables and a polo club house. His son Guy and daughter in law Julie have left the polo grou

nd to go wild and converted the club house into a restaurant and the stables into fifteen luxurious rooms. Sanctuary Farm is the perfect place to use as a base for climbing Mt Longonot, rock climbing & gorge walking in Hell’s Gate, game viewing in Nakuru Park and at the end of an hectic day relaxing around our beautiful swimming pool with the game grazing close by. Our attentive staff only want to help you enjoy your stay as much as they can. One doesn’t need to leave the farm to enjoy, we offer horse riding, walking, bird watching and boat rides in a safe private environment, whilst enjoying the numerous species of wildlife and world class bird-life; that are protected on our farm away from the maddening crowds.

Kenya's first international airport had no runway.

Just a lake and flying boats coming from London.

My great-grandmother flew this route. She landed right here and took the train into Nairobi.

Naivasha was never a backwater. It was the gateway to Africa.

Follow along as I dig into Naivasha's surprisingly rich history.

The chamomile hasn't flowered yet.
But Rosie leaned in, crushed a leaf between her fingers, and smiled.
"That's good," she said. "Really good."
She's been doing this a long time. She knows the difference.
We walked the whole garden together this week. Thyme, oregano, basil, the herb beds that feed Kijiko's kitchen twice a week, fresh on Tuesdays and Fridays. She approved. Quietly, the way people do when something is working.
There's something coming to the kitchen soon. We're not quite ready to talk about it yet.
But the garden is ready.

She comes once a year.
From the sea, back to the farm.
Rosie is here.
This means one thing. For the next four weeks the restaurant closes its full menu and every single person in that kitchen devotes themselves entirely to this. The sourcing. The testing. The building. One month, one focus, one new menu.
This is how it gets made.
Pizza is on while we work.
New menu lands in June. Follow along.

I keep sharing these because I cannot stop.
Real people. Real words. No prompting.
Just an honest account of what they found here on the shores of Lake Naivasha.
A clean cottage. A host who actually shows up. A chef who cares. A fire at the end of the day.
It is not complicated. It is just what happens when a place is run by people who genuinely love it.
We have been holding space for memories like these for years. And every review like this is an honour. Genuinely.
So I am going to keep sharing them until everyone who needs a place like this knows it exists.

Fischer's Tower is a lone rock pillar soaring 45 metres out of Hell's Gate National Park. A landscape torn apart into a giant volcanic gorge with hundred-metre cliffs. Wild, ancient, and completely on our doorstep.
On the way up we spotted a rock hyrax watching us from a ledge. Looks like an oversized guinea pig. Closest living relative of the elephant. Kenya keeps doing this.
Park entry: 600 KES residents, $50 non-residents.
Climbing Fischer's Tower with Peter: 5,500 KES per person for three to four hours.
Peter's number is in the first comment. Staying with us and want to add a day here? Just ask when you book.

The troubled waters are rising.

Nobody planned this. The lake simply did what lakes do, following rhythms older than any of us.

The shoreline has moved. Crescent Island looks different than it ever has. And the wildlife has responded to all of it.

If you have ever wanted to see Naivasha at its most alive, this is the moment.

I will be honest. Running this place is hard work every single day.

Then I read something like what Thomas or Amra wrote, and it all makes sense again. These are not marketing lines. These are real guests, real mornings on the farm, real moments that stuck with them long after checkout.

That is what we are building here. Come and feel it yourself.

Go on the website. You can check availability yourself, and you can book direct very easily (link in bio).

Found my dad's old bow in a store. Turns out the legend who sold it to him years ago is still around. Still shooting. Still teaching.

Meet — one of Kenya's most decorated competitive archers. He restrung the bow, spec'd the target, and now we are training.

There is something about those concentric circles pulling you inward. Getting still. Getting quiet. And when the arrow finds the centre, something completes.

Let me know in the comments if this should become an official activity at Sanctuary Farm.

This morning, fresh milk from our own dairy. By this afternoon, mozzarella pulled by hand in our kitchen. By this evening, melted on a pizza at Kijiko, on a table by the lake.

We just started making it ourselves. And honestly, we are not sure why we waited so long.

If you are staying with us, order a pizza and taste where it came from. Or ask for a packed lunch and we will make you a panini with mozzarella pulled the same morning.

Some things are worth the extra mile.

Three guests. Three reviews, Three days. The last one came in four hours ago.
We did not ask for any of these.
Read them and you will notice something. They all say the same thing in different words. Hidden gem. Feels intentional. Wildlife walking past. A place that makes you slow down.
If you think we hand-picked these, go to our website, scroll down the home page, and see for yourself. Hundreds more, straight from Airbnb and Google, right there.
