🐾 Rescue Case Update 🐾

This sweet dog was brought to us in a very poor condition. On presentation, he had a pendulous cranial abdomen, a Body Condition Score (BCS) of 2/7 (severely underweight), soft tissue swelling on the left sublumbar region, a papilloma-like growth on the right eye, and a heavy flea infestation. The rest of the clinical examination was unremarkable.

Further diagnostics were conducted to determine the cause of the abdominal distension. Radiography revealed significant ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdomen) and lower intestinal impaction/obstruction caused by multiple bone fragments. Blood work also showed hypoalbuminemia (low blood protein levels), which contributed to the fluid buildup.

Treatment was initiated immediately to address both the obstruction and the ascites. We are happy to report that the intestinal obstruction has resolved, the ascitic fluid has cleared, and his abdomen has returned to normal size.

He is now stable and on the road to recovery. The next big goal? Weight gain and rebuilding his body condition — bado kunona sasa 💪🐶

Earlier today at 4am, we received a distress call. Violent convulsions, frothing and all other movements that accompany classical seizures.

We responded immediately......hours later, he walked and explored our lawn.
