The guy in the middle of accompanying image was known as Arthur Wanyoike Thungu, Inspector of Police Arthur Wanyoike Thungu, and he was one of President Jomo Kenyatta's most trusted bodyguards. The legend even goes that when Insp. Arthur Wanyoike Thungu was off-duty and/or on leave, President Jomo Kenyatta felt uneasy. Insp. Arthur Wanyoike Thungu and Minister of State Mbiyu Koinange (left in accompanying image), were listed as the two key suspects in the 2nd March 1975 murder of Nyandarua North Member of Parliament Josiah Mwangi Kariuki, by the 1975 Parliamentary Select Committee Chaired by Hon. Elijah Mwangale, that was constituted to investigate Josiah Mwangi Kariuki's murder.
Also, in the year 2000, in a three part feature published in the "Daily Nation" newspapers of 2nd, 3rd & 4th March 2000, the "Daily Nation" stated that when Josiah Mwangi Kariuki was being interrogated by a group of top Kenyan security officers at Kingsway House, Nairobi, Kenya, the then headquarters of the Directorate of Security Intelligence (DSI) i.e. "Special Branch," Insp. Arthur Wanyoike Thungu punched Josiah Mwangi Kariuki so hard in the face, knocking out three of Josiah Mwangi Kariuki's teeth there and then.
