๐งฑ Step-by-Step Guide to Turning Animal Dung into Charcoal Briquettes
This method works not only with pig dung, but also with cow dung, goat, sheep, chicken, rabbit, horse, and donkey waste. These are all great sources for making charcoal briquettes.
Step 1: Collect and Dry the Dung
Start by gathering animal wasteโpig, cow, goat, chicken, or any combination. Spread it out under the sun until itโs completely dry. Dry dung is easier to work with and burns better.
Step 2: Add Agricultural Waste
Mix the dried dung with things like sawdust, rice husks, maize stalks, or dry leaves. This helps the briquettes burn longer and cleaner. You donโt need to be exactโjust aim for a good balance between dung and plant waste.
Step 3: Crush Everything
Use a grinder or crush the mix by hand until it becomes fine and powdery. The finer the mix, the better the briquettes will hold together and burn.
Step 4: Add a Binder
To make the mix stick together, add a binder. You can use cassava starch, flour, or even clay. Mix the binder with water to make a paste, then stir it into your crushed dung mixture.
Step 5: Mold the Briquettes
Shape the mixture into small blocks or balls. You can use your hands, a simple mold, or a press. Make sure to press them tightly so they donโt crumble.
Step 6: Dry the Briquettes
Lay them out in the sun for several days until theyโre completely dry. If it rains, cover them with plastic or move them indoors. Dry briquettes burn better and last longer.
Step 7: Carbonize (Optional)
If you want charcoal briquettes, youโll need to carbonize them. Place the dried briquettes in a metal drum with small air holes and burn them slowly with limited oxygen. This turns them into charcoal, which burns hotter and cleaner.
Step 8: Store or Sell
Once theyโre ready, store them in a dry place. You can use them at home for cooking or heating, or sell them to neighbors, shops, or restaurants. People love them because theyโre cheap, clean, and eco-friendly.
๐ก Why This Is a Smart Move
- Youโre turning waste into something useful.
- You save money on cooking fuel.
- You help reduce deforestation and pollution.
- You can start smallโeven without land or big money.
- You can earn extra income by selling briquettes.
