Guide to Using Animal Manure for Farming
Manure is a great way to improve soil fertility and boost crop yields. Below is a simple guide on how to use different types of manure effectively.
1️⃣ Goat Manure
✔ Benefits: Rich in nitrogen, dries quickly, does not burn plants easily.
✔ Best Use: Compost for 2–3 months before use. Apply 1 handful per 2 plants and mix with soil. Ideal for maize, vegetables, and fruit trees.
2️⃣ Cow Manure
✔ Benefits: Improves soil structure and retains moisture well.
✔ Best Use: Compost for 3–6 months before applying. Use a handful per planting hole or spread in rows before planting maize and vegetables.
3️⃣ Pig Manure
✔ Benefits: High in nitrogen and phosphorus, great for leafy crops and maize.
✔ Best Use: Compost for 3–6 months to reduce ammonia. Apply 1–2 handfuls per 2 maize plants and mix well with soil. Supplement with Maize iC or foliar feeds.
4️⃣ Poultry Manure
✔ Benefits: Very high in nitrogen and phosphorus, fast-acting.
✔ Best Use: Dry and compost for 2–3 months. Use sparingly – a handful per plant or mix with soil before planting maize and vegetables.
