🍅 Tomatoes: From Seed to Market
1. Seed Selection 🌱
The journey begins with choosing high-quality seeds — preferably hybrid or drought-resistant varieties suited for the local climate. Farmers look for seeds that promise high yield, pest resistance, and good market value.

2. Nursery Preparation 🪴
Seeds are sown in a nursery where they are protected and nurtured for 3–4 weeks. During this stage, proper watering, weeding, and shading ensure strong seedlings.

3. Transplanting to the Field 🌿
Once the seedlings are strong enough (about 15–20cm tall), they are transplanted to well-prepared, fertilized land. Drip irrigation or mulching is used for moisture conservation—especially important in dry areas.

4. Crop Management 🚜
Farmers apply smart farming practices:

Drip irrigation for water efficiency

Integrated pest management (IPM) to reduce chemical use

Staking and pruning to support growth and prevent disease

Regular fertilizer application (organic or inorganic) for better yield.

5. Harvesting 🍅
Tomatoes are harvested in phases, depending on the market demand and ripeness. This ensures freshness and minimizes losses.

6. Post-Harvest Handling 🧺
Careful sorting, grading, and packaging are done to reduce damage. Proper handling preserves quality and fetches better prices.

7. Marketing & Sales 💰
Tomatoes are sold in local markets, supermarkets or even exported. Farmers can add value by drying, juicing, or selling in branded packaging. Digital platforms and cooperative marketing help farmers reach wider markets and avoid brokers.
