私のプードルの先生であり、サニーのブリーダーでもあった金子先生がご逝去されたとの訃報に接し、残念でなりません。
専門学校での勤務当時、選抜クラスの係を担当していたご縁でお声をかけていただき、退職後は動物病院での勤務と掛け持ちながらそのまま金子先生のもとで数年間お手伝いをさせていただきました。
ドッグショーに興味があり、A級昇格を目指すパートナー犬として別犬種を迎えようと考えていたところ、プードルを迎えることになったのも、何かのご縁だったのだと思います。
サニーを譲っていただいたおかげで愛犬とショーに参加するという夢もチャンピオンも完成し、無事A級にも合格することができ、自分が目標としていたことを叶えることができました。
新卒から社会で働いてみた後に海外の経験を経て、改めてトリマーとしての基礎を見直したいと思っていた中で出会った先生の技術・技法は、私にとって唯一無二のものでした。
今でこそ面で考えるトリミングは一般的になってきて国内外問わずいろんなトリマーさんが提唱していますが私が先生と出会った当時は私の知る中では金子先生しかおらず、どうしても感覚で教える先生が多かった中で、なんてわかりやすくロジカルなトリミングなんだと驚いたものです。
しっかりと感謝の気持ちを伝える機会があれば良かったと思うばかりです。

My Poodle mentor and Sunny’s breeder, Mr. Koichi Kaneko, has passed away. I am deeply saddened by this loss. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
When I was working at the grooming school and in charge of the advanced class, he kindly reached out to me. After I left the school, I had the privilege of assisting him for several years.
At the time, I had a strong interest in dog shows and was thinking of welcoming a different breed as a partner dog while working toward my JKC A-class grooming license. Looking back, the fact that I ended up welcoming a Poodle feels like it was meant to be.
Because of Sunny, I was able to finish a champion title and successfully obtain my A-class grooming license, achieving goals that meant a great deal to me.
After gaining experience in the industry and overseas, I found myself wanting to return to the fundamentals of grooming. The techniques and philosophy I learned from him were truly one of a kind, and they continue to influence me to this day.
Today, the idea of approaching grooming by thinking in terms of planes and structure has become much more common, and many groomers both in Japan and overseas now advocate it.
However, when I first met Mr. Kaneko, he was the only groomer I knew who taught grooming in that way.
At the time, many instructors tended to teach based on intuition or feeling, so I remember being truly surprised by how clear and logical his approach to grooming was.
