Summer is almost here in Okinawa—so let’s get splashing!
Our Splash Park opens on April 19, ready to bring you fun, water-filled adventures! 💦

Come cool off and enjoy a great time with family and friends.
Please note that the swings (our winter version of the Splash Park) will end on the same day.

Special Event – "Okinawa Rail: Let's Study and Get to Know!"

Do you know about the Okinawa Rail (Yanbaru Kuina)? These unique birds are found only in the Yanbaru forest in the northern part of Okinawa Island. Sadly, they are classified as an endangered species on the IUCN Red List.

At Okinawa Zoo and Museum, we play a vital role in conserving this rare species. While they were previously kept in one shelter, they are now housed in multiple locations to reduce risks and improve conservation efforts.

Join us for this special event to learn more about Okinawa Rails through interactive workshops and educational panels. You can also support their conservation by purchasing charity items.

✨ Special Exhibition – Only for Two Days!
For two days only (today and tomorrow), you will have a rare chance to see our Okinawa Rails up close! Since they are usually kept off-exhibit, don’t miss this unique opportunity!

I DON'T WANNA GO BACK! 😱

Okinawa Zoo & Museum is closed every Tuesday. (If Tuesday is a national holiday, we’re open that day but closed on the following Wednesday.)

For our jaguars, Tuesday is also a fasting day—just like in the wild, where carnivores don’t eat every day. On Monday afternoons, they really don’t want to return to their off-exhibit area… maybe because they know what’s coming! 🐆😆

Gift for Chimpanzees

之前女兒節的時候
保育員特別為黑猩猩「可可」準備了小禮物
可可也很認真地品嚐保育員的愛喔～

March 3 was Girl’s Festival in Japan, and our zookeepers prepared a special gift for our chimpanzee girls! 🐵💝 Coco was the first to come and savor the delicious treat. It seems that in their world, too, "bread is better than the song of birds"! 😆🍞

Handmade Dish for Our Giant Anteater!

大食蟻獸的保育員幫大食蟻獸的食器升級囉！
這樣可以更清楚的觀察到大食蟻獸的進食
有機會來看看大食蟻獸靈活的舌頭吧！

Do you know what this grayish, concrete-made object is? It's a special feeding dish handcrafted by our zookeepers just for our giant anteater! This dish allows us to observe how they use their loooong tongue to eat.

Come and enjoy their fantastic feeding show at 2 PM on weekends and holidays!

Feeding Enrichment

保育員最近在嘗試鴯鶓的行為豐富化
就從飼料開始！
香蕉連皮一起給
這樣鴯鶓就會想辦把自己把皮剝掉～
從小地方開始慢慢改善動物們的環境囉～

Our zookeepers purposely give fruits to our emus with the skin on. Some of you might think that eating unpeeled fruits would be annoying for them. However, this is actually a form of "zoo enrichment"!

In the wild, emus spend a long time foraging and eating their food. By offering them unpeeled fruits, we help create a more natural, wild-like environment for them.

Our zookeepers heard that Chaans (Okinawan crowing roosters) might like mustard greens, so they decided to give it a try... and watched their reaction!

Oh no—looks like it's not their thing! Mustard greens are definitely not our Chaans' favorite! 😆

連背景音樂都是保育員的把拔為了天竺鼠特別做的配樂喔！
大家也太多才多藝了吧！

Did you know that guinea pigs look sooooooo cute from this "looking-up" angle? Come see for yourself! 😍

(And don’t forget to enjoy the background music! This song was actually composed by our zookeeper's parents just for our guinea pigs. Their love for guinea pigs runs in the family! ❤️🐹🎶)

Tongue-Tastic Giraffe Feeding!

從保育員視角就可以清楚看到
長頸鹿吃飯的時候不是只有用長長的舌頭喔
長頸鹿的上下唇和舌頭靈活並用
吃葉子的時候效率之高啊！

Let's watch our giraffes' feeding time! Yume and Coco are enjoying leaves from a branch. You'll be amazed at how skillfully they use their long tongues to eat! 🦒💛

Now Renovating! 🚧✨

神奇博物館的戶外大型遊具之前重新整修
最近快要整修完了！
整修完之後歡迎大家來玩喔！

Thank you for your patience as we work on renovation projects at our Wonder Museum! One of these projects is repainting and replacing the ropes on our big play structure, Kids' Kirin ("Kirin" means giraffe).

Take a look at the new ropes for the giant net—did you know they’re installed by hand, not by machine? 🛠️👏 We can't wait to see this space filled with children's excitement in the near future! 🎉🐒

Meet Yume, our giraffe! Did you know that giraffes belong to Cetartiodactyla and, like other members of this group, they ruminate?

Take a close look at Yume’s neck—you might notice something moving from her stomach up to her mouth. That’s rumination in action! 🌀✨

美洲豹保育員把牧草吊在豹豹們的展示場
看看牧草能不能當豹們的行為豐富化道具
本來還以為豹們完全沒興趣
但後來還是有咬咬看玩玩看
效果一般般ＸＤ

Our twin jaguar girls, Nirai and Kanai, are almost one year old! 🎉 They’re always full of curiosity, showing us fascinating behaviors.

One day, our zookeepers left bunches of long grass in their exhibit to see how they’d react. At first, they seemed totally uninterested... but later on... 👀✨

Recycling in the Zoo! ♻️🦁

我們最近把草食動物吃剩的樹枝樹幹
用碎木機碎成木屑再利用
今天把木屑鋪在獅子們的展示場
獅子們很好奇木屑的味道
不知道大貓貓是不是也會用木屑貓砂呢～

We made wood chips from leftover branches that were eaten by our animals. Today, those wood chips were given to Rythem and Seram, our lions, in their exhibit.

Interested in My Neighbor... 🐾👀

對馬山貓「沙果」在觀察隔壁鄰居日本獾們
不知道沙果看著隔壁兩團相親相愛每天放閃的小獾情侶在想什麼呢～

This is Sago, our Tsushima leopard cat. She’s curious about her neighbors, our Japanese badgers! Sago often watches other animals like the badgers or Amur leopard cats, but she doesn’t pay much attention to us—visitors or zookeepers!

It’s fascinating how each animal has its own unique interests, just like Sago. We recommend getting to know each animal's personality—it will make your visit even more interesting! 😊
