Friends of Petra Animals

Friends of Petra Animals Hello World! We're volunteers trying to bring changes to the living conditions of animals in Petra.

We aim to:
1) Inform people internationally the true situations surrounding the animals of Petra, 2) Raise funds to help improve the living conditions of animals in and around Petra, 3) Raise awareness among local people the necessity of care for both owned- and stray animals in Petra, 4) Run a healthy, reliable and transparent organization.

I was told that the blind puppy crossed the rainbow bridge on June 17th. My Bedouin friend just shared the news today. He was eating well one day, and the next, he was gone...

It’s heartbreaking, especially knowing his mother was poisoned by cruel hands not long before.

Another scorching day in Petra, Jordan.
Today, noticeably fewer stray dogs came by to receive their daily portion of dry food, possibly due to the intense heat. 🥵🥵🥵

Another day. Another scorcher. Another day spent feeding hungry mouths.
But today was different—missiles streaked across the sky above Petra.

Still, we hold on to hope—when will peace finally find its way to the Middle East?

It hit 32°C today, with sharp, unforgiving sunrays from morning all the way until sunset.

Today’s a dry food day. Our blind little boy, along with the other strays, is happily crunching away—sharing a rare moment of comfort in the heat.

On June 13th, Israel launched surprise airstrikes and covert drone attacks on Iran. Iran swiftly retaliated with ballistic missiles and drones. In the aftermath, commercial flights into Jordan were suspended, and Petra now stands silent once again. No tourists means no income for the local Bedouins—leaving the stray dogs and cats even hungrier than before.

Today, though, the stray dogs caught a bit of luck—feasting on scraps from a poultry shop that our Bedouin friend managed to reach.

And our little blind white puppy is still with us. 🥹
But what are we going to do about him…?
There’s no way he’d survive on his own out there.

Would bringing him to Europe give him a real chance?
Is that the right move? What do you think? 😭💔

Overflowing with Puppy Love! 🐾
These little ones are growing up happy and safe—without fear. No harsh hands or mean humans here. We're doing everything we can to ensure they grow up knowing love, not fear. 💖

But then, we came across a blind white puppy (in the video). His future is uncertain... and he needs all the care, love, and hope we can give.

In the sun-drenched village of Uum Sayhoun, nestled beside the ancient city of Petra, Jordan, even the hottest summer days can’t dim the joy of sharing a meal—whether you’re a mummy dog or a playful pup.

With tomorrow’s forecast soaring to a sweltering 38°C, dry food remains a reliable favorite, offering a quick and satisfying bite in the cool shade.

Just don’t forget to stay hydrated, seek out some breezy spots, and keep those tails happily wagging!

There is a red dog known for his aggression toward anyone he encounters—except for the Bedouin man who feeds him. This man keeps the dog in his small barrack, where the animal lives peacefully among a group of rabbits the Bedouin also cares for.

Because of Eid that ended some days ago, dogs had an opportunity to feed on raw meat! Their tummies are still full and happy. We only fed puppies today with some dry food.

Recently, more homeless puppies have been brought to the barrack. The Bedouin expects to care for as many as 20 to 25 of them. But the space is limited, and with so many animals in such cramped quarters, the future for these puppies remains uncertain... 😣😣😣🥺🥺🥺

A mother dog in Jordan recently lost 4 of her 9 puppies, likely due to the widespread parvovirus in the region. Concerned for their wellbeing, a Bedouin man reached out to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) in Wadi Musa where PETA has a clinic near Petra for help, but unfortunately, they were unavailable to assist.

Before Eid wraps up, some amazing local Bedouins in Uum Sayhoun are treating our dogs to a good meal! These dogs seem relatively comfortable around humans.

As the Eid weekend finished in Jordan, our homeless dogs and cats are enjoying some dry food!
