Important Client Update – Foreign Tick Cases Reported
I've been made aware of a foreign tick species that has recently been reported in Jersey, with around 10 confirmed cases so far (apparently only in the west).
These ticks can cause very serious illness in pets. One recent case showed the following signs:
Lethargy and loss of appetite
Very dark stools (possible sign of internal bleeding)
Small blood spots found around the home (came from the mouth)
Blood clots visible in the mouth
Bruising seen on the skin when shaved for a scan which was caused by blood clots in the stomach
This case was life-threatening, and diagnosis was only made because the owner pushed for further investigation. The dog is now recovering and doing well.
