“This is a beautiful initiative, not new, as many years ago we organized it together with our dear friend Filippo Masi in Manerbio at the beginning of the 2000s. We had studied this event to have a new experience and also to do a bit of folklore, and it was a great success. I remember that back then we had a lot of fun. As far as I'm concerned it is a discipline that I don't practice but Filippo who had more experience helped me a lot. It was nice to propose this event again, it is something that unites two disciplines and also makes sense from a technical point of view because it gives us the opportunity to try horses and methods that are new to us. Recognizing the difficulties that lie behind each discipline certainly helps to appreciate what others do with horses and above all there is one thing that unites us, which is our companion - the horse - whatever he does. In terms of entertainment, we, the reiners, are ready to put ourselves on the fence, certainly making fun of ourselves, while waiting to see the cutters do a reining pattern with our horses.”

“It’s not my first time competing in cutting, since I’m from that age when we had to ride in all disciplines at horse shows. About 30 years ago I did almost everything including a bit of cutting. Back in the days I had a cutting horse in training and I tried myself to show at a couple of shows, but it didn't work out so well… I basically know the rules, although I might have forgotten some of them. I did a lot of cow horse back in the days, but all those disciplines like cutting and reining changed so much. It has increased the level of difficulty and the quality of the horses and the competitions, so what I called ‘cutting’ in those days is not even close to what they do today. I was quite nervous about this event, so I went to practice twice before this show. The first time I rode with Ute [Holm] and I thought I forgot about everything. Then me and Bernard [Fonck] went to practice with Denis Pini and everything came a little bit more clear to me, so we’ll see how it goes. The main thing of this event I think will be the show itself, not how good we will be. People might probably want to see us fall off, but it’s a good thing for the sport and for sure we all want to be good, it will be a fun show. Right now the plan is to walk in, make a deep cut and try to catch a cow to win or at the least a cow to survive.”

🤠 Francesco Barbagli and Never To Suen, owned by Hansruedi Bauman.
“Fantastic idea that I am really excited for! I went to ride a couple of times with Andrea Favaretto, who was very patient with me also because he understood the great enthusiasm I have to do well, or rather, to limit the damage. It's the first time I did cutting. In the past I've done cow horse, but this is something completely different. I will face this competition with a lot of motivation and also with a great desire to have fun because I think that the concept of this show is also fun, obviously with a lot of discipline, dedication and desire to do well. My plan is to walk in the herd and hopefully cut the cow that I am suppose to. I really don't know what to expect, but I will definitely try to stay focused on all the things I’ve learned. In a situation like this, where the Reining Futurity takes place concurrently with the Cutting Futurity, this is an event that will certainly be good for the sport in general, and that will connect people in our western industry who work in different disciplines.”
