Due to their isolation, Icelandic horses are vulnerable to diseases being brought in by visitors from other countries so we would like to remind everyone of these important rules to help protect them 🐴💕 A current outbreak of EHV-1 in the USA means we ask visitors to be extra careful about the possibility of transmission! ⚠️
We provide helmets and tack/equipment for the horses, and encourage riders to wear practical, comfortable (waterproof!) clothing and hiking boots or trainers.

After a long winter we are hoping spring is somewhere around the corner 🌷 Amongst the storms there has even been some sunshine ideal for taking a nap! We are now on our ‘summer’ schedule, offering rides every day beginning at 9:00 and the last tour departing at 18:30. A perfect way to enjoy both the famous black sand beaches and some adorable Icelandic horses ☀️🐴

Now it’s December many of us are thinking about holidays 🎄 and just like humans, horses deserve some down time! We run tours all year round, but want to keep our horses happy 💕 so they take turns to go to a nearby farm for their vacations.

Winter is on its way ❄ So if you’re joining us for a tour, be sure to wrap up warmly with a waterproof layer on top! It’s also a good idea to check weather and driving conditions each day (https://safetravel.is/conditions), as we can have some wild conditions through the winter months - but you can always be sure of a warm welcome from our horses, guides, and maybe even Pumba the stable cat 😻

Summer has arrived in Vík and we have been enjoying some beautiful sunshine for the last few days ☀️🙌 Our rides sell out very quickly, especially when the weather is good, so if you're hoping to ride with us on a specific day it's best to book in advance! If you are too busy snoozing like Lotta and Von, you might miss out... 🐴💤

The weather in Iceland can change very quickly so it’s good to be prepared. If you are wondering what to wear for a ride with us, we have some tips for you 👇

◆ Hiking boots or sneakers are great for your feet 🥾
◆ Wear warm layers according to the conditions of the day, and rain gear on top is always a good idea 🌧 Vík gets quite a lot of rain but we don’t let that stop us!
◆ It’s okay to wear a hat or tube scarf to keep your ears warm, but make sure it doesn’t have a big pompom or the helmet won’t fit.
◆ Avoid large or flappy items like ponchos - they might scare the horses in the wind 🌪️ If you wear a scarf, make sure it is secure under your jacket.

We also ask you to leave backpacks and large cameras in your car or the lockers at our stable, but make sure to bring your phone for the guides to grab a few photos!
