Canine distemper is a severe,highly contagious viral disease of dogs and other carnivores with profound effects on the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, nervous system and lymphoid tissue.
Distribution : Enzootic worldwide
Incidence : All ages can be effected ( Highest in young puppies)
Clinical symptoms of this disease are fever, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhoea,conjunctivitis.Once virus reaches central nervous system, it can cause twitching, seizures, partial or total paralysis with drooling and chewing movements of jaw ( chewing gum fits).This causes irreparable damage to nervous system, resulting in death.
Vaccination is the most widely used and best available prevention for canine distemper..Please prefer Immunization and follow guidelines of Vet.
