The beautiful comb of the rooster plays a very important role in their life. Not only does it manage the thermoregulation but also maintains the circadian rhythm. Combs are dark red in colour owing to heavy blood circulation and it is forever growing in Roosters.
Mint the rooster being a white leghorn chicken has a single-type comb. Sadly, the comb keeps getting heavy as he grows older. The heavy comb was causing a recurrent fungal infection and was causing a threat of permanent damage to his left eye.
De-combing or a dubbing Surgery in such a heavy comb is rare and very risky. But we had to take that risk and relieve Mint’s suffering. Fortunately for us, Mint the rooster has turned out to be such a fierce warrior! Not only did he fight the recurring infection but also went through the challenging surgery very bravely and emerged unscathed. We are so proud of Mint 😃
