GoaGPRS GPRS Sanctuary - Home For Senior Dogs
Giving a Home to those who need it most. The number of strays in the state continues to be a major issue.

Who we are:
The Gomantak Pashu Rakshak Sanstha (GPRS) was founded by members of our society passionate about animal welfare in South Goa. We have nearly two decades of hands-on experience working with NGOs in Goa and internationally. We believe that education plays a major role in changing attitudes about animal welfare issues, and more broadly, the environment. Why we do it:
Despite many successf

ul animal welfare programs in Goa, challenges of awareness, education and cruelty to animals remain. Due to the urgent need for action to improve the situation in Goa, most NGOs do not have resources to concentrate on education. GPRS aims to fill this gap with education initiatives for schools in South Goa and we also contribute to the need for action through our sponsored animal rescue initiative. The issues we face:
While the animal welfare situation has improved, our experience has shown that the underlying issues that were faced twenty years ago are still present today. In addition to dogs, there are cows and other abandoned animals on the streets of Goa. Pets are not registered, animal welfare regulations are not implemented or enforced, and often residents live with unvaccinated animals in a country where the threat of Rabies is an everyday reality. Animal cruelty continues to be an issue, with little legal recourse available. At GPRS, we firmly believe that grass-roots education is imperative to making significant changes in attitudes. The seeds of awareness of the environment, kindness to animals and each other need to be sown at a young age to make the required impact on future generations. Our initiatives combine Action and Education. Action -The GPRS Animal Rescue
The urgent needs of Goa's strays cannot be ignored. The GPRS Animal Rescue initiative was set up to provide aid for stray animals that are sponsored by compassionate members of society. Even small donations can make a big difference. Our aim is to encourage people to experience the positive effect that their involvement can have on animals in need. Curing a maggot wound, sterilization of a stray, treatment of an ailment, can all change the life of a homeless animal. Education - The LEARN Centre,
The LEARN Centre is focused on educating children about kindness to each other, animals and the environment. This initiative involves creating and delivering holistic education programmes in schools around South Goa. Teaching the next generation about kindness & compassion are the starting blocks in our movement for change.

It's so easy!
Click on the link below to visit our Amazon Wishlist and send our gorgeous pooches any of these wonderful supplements which we use every day!
Many of our Golden Oldies come to us with chronic skin conditions which we heal as best we can, but they can flare up time after time, especially during monsoons.
These skin tonics really help keep skin & coats in tiptop condition during the long monsoon months!

On behalf of the trustees of GPRS, we want to thank the Rotary Club of Margao for their generous donation to our dog sanctuary. We are very grateful to Rotarian President Dilip Nayak and his team, and especially to Rotarian Dr. Babita Angle, a committed hands-on dog lover. We truly appreciate the club's support and encouragement.

We would like to update everyone on "Butterscotch" we did not know any of the many names we are now sure he had, so we had named him after a sweet treat, as outside Mongini's has apparantly been his home for some say, an incredible 19 years.
Dr Anjali had prepared us all that his deteriorating condition was likely to become worse, due to his advancing years and he did indeed slow down even more than when he was on the road. We made him as comfortable as we possibly could with a cozy bed and handfed him daily.
One of his carers & street dog feeder Nelita kindly visited him yesterday bringing some of his favourite food and also handfed him but it was clear to us all he was struggling.
Heartbreakingly, today Butterscotch decided it was his time to say goodbye. Although his time with us was not as long as we had hoped for, we are beyond grateful and feel blessed to have been able to spend his last days showering him with love and comfort.
We have since learned how special he is to so many people and to everyone who knew and loved him, our heartfelt thanks for giving him such a long and happy life outside Mongini's.

RIP old fellow, you will be greatly missed by so many.
