Three Persian boys, up for adoption in NCR region. The boys are around 7 months old, vaccinated and neutered. They are rescued from an environment where they had very little human interaction, so they are shy and nervous around new people. I had them neutered a few days back, they have been properly groomed and are currently recuperating from their neuter surgery at our lovely vet, Dr.Shally’s clinic. We are looking for good forever homes for the boys, they would need a patient family that is ready to give them the time and attention they deserve. and make them feel loved and confident. The nutritional requirements of a feline is very different than that of a Canine.
1)Cats are obligate carnivores and do not require grains or veggies in their diet.
2) Cats have a different muscle to offal ratio than dogs due a high requirement of amino sulfonic acid.
3) Cats also have a different Bone to meet ratio.
4) unlike the common belief, fish should not be a part of your cat’s regular meals and should be given in moderation.
5) Eggs should also be given in moderation to cats, couple of yolks in a week is fine, though egg whites should be completely off the table.
6)Topical supplementation of amino sulphonic acid, PUFAs and essential vitamins is a must for cats, if giving home food, these should be added as per the weight and calorie per kg of the food, post adding these supplements do not heat the food.
7) Be it a cat or a dog, the food should be given based on the calorie per Kg of the meal and not ratio or percentwise. A nutritionist who cannot calculate the calorie per kg of his meals, cannot tell you the AAS (amino acid score) of his meals is not someone you should depend on for your meal plans. Nutrition isn’t something you learn by doing a crash course of six months, I did my 3 course 15 years back, I work with various vets before I started practising, and I am still learning something new everyday.
