Today sunny afternoon, my phone rang. It was a man in a panic. “Please, I need your help! There’s a dog in my yard with a water bowl stuck around its neck. I can’t get it off!”
Without hesitation, I jumped in my car and sped over. When I arrived, I saw a medium-sized dog struggling to move, a plastic water bowl clamped tightly around its neck. The dog looked frightened, its tail tucked between its legs.
“Hey Chotu” I said softly as I approached. The dog whimpered but didn’t run away. I knelt down, trying to project calmness. “I’m here to help you.”
The man stood nearby, clearly distressed. “I tried to help, but it keeps pulling away.”
I nodded, carefully assessing the situation. The bowl was wedged on tightly, and I knew I had to work quickly but gently. I reached out, speaking soothingly to the dog. “You’re going to be okay. Just stay still for me.”
Slowly, I grasped the edge of the bowl and began to twist it. The dog flinched but stayed in place. With a little more pressure, the bowl finally popped off, and the dog let out a joyful bark, spinning around in relief.
The man laughed, his face lighting up with gratitude. “Thank you! I thought I was going to have to call animal control!”
I offered the dog some water, and it eagerly lapped it up, tail wagging wildly. As I sat with the dog
“Thanks for coming so quickly,” the man said, smiling. “You really saved the day.”
As I left, I looked back at the dog, now happily bounding around the yard. I couldn’t help but smile, knowing I had made a difference in its life.
