Yes—many dogs will run out if a gate is left open. Dogs are naturally curious and may chase smells, sounds, or movement outside. Some dogs are well-trained and stay put, but others will take the opportunity to explore, especially if they’re excited or not used to boundaries.
If you’re dealing with this, a few things help:
• Training your dog to wait at doors/gates
• Teaching recall (coming back when called)
• Making sure they get enough exercise so they’re less tempted to roam
