Grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Vet-Excellence Conference hosted and exceptionally organized by the Pet Practitioners Association of Uttar Pradesh in Noida.

Dr. Deepti Deshpande along with Dr. Prathmesh Deshmukh had the privilege of addressing an audience of over 300 veterinarians, representing not only diverse regions of India but also colleagues from across the Indian subcontinent.

While the conference featured enriching discussions on Cardiology and Neurology, this marked the first time Dr. Deepti & Dr. Prathmesh shared the stage together to delve into a particularly complex and clinically relevant topic - Differentiating Syncope and Seizures in pets, an ongoing diagnostic challenge for busy practitioners.

The interaction, questions, and discussions that followed made the experience truly rewarding. Connecting with so many passionate veterinarians from across the country was inspiring.

Last but certainly not least, it was an honor to have our work appreciated by Dr. Umesh Chandra Sharma, President of the Veterinary Council of India and the Indian Veterinary Association.

Looking forward to many more such meaningful academic exchanges and collaborations.

Dr. Prathmesh Deshmukh was invited by the Pet Practitioners’ Association of Mumbai (PPAM) to speak on Neuro-Imaging at their Annual Meet this week.

The event featured exclusive lectures on MRI and advanced neuro-imaging, with an enthusiastic and diverse audience ranging from experienced veterinarians already utilizing MRI in clinical practice to fresh graduates and budding clinicians being introduced to these modalities for the first time.

The sessions emphasized the importance of an efficient clinical work-up of neurological patients, highlighting accurate neurolocalization prior to MRI as a critical step toward achieving improved diagnostic accuracy and better patient outcomes.

Dr. Deshmukh also conducted an engaging post-lecture quiz on Neuro-Imaging and MRI, with three Littmann stethoscopes as prizes. With an impressive 19 participants answering all questions correctly, the winners were decided through a lucky draw, along with consolation prizes for the remaining 16 participants.

Beyond the academic exchange, the meet provided a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with referral veterinarians from Mumbai and across Maharashtra, strengthening collaborations built over years of managing complex neurological cases together.

A sincere thank you to Pet Practitioners’ Association of Mumbai for the invitation and for their continued efforts in fostering learning and growth within the veterinary community.

Dr. Prathmesh Deshmukh was invited as a lead speaker at the recently held prestigious 41st Annual Convention of Indian Society of Veterinary Medicine to speak about his experience in the field of Veterinary Neurology. India being a tropical country is the home to several infectious and hence inflammatory neurological diseases in animals.

Dr. Prathmesh spoke about diagnosing and managing the Inflammatory Spinal Cord Diseases in Dogs and shared his insights on how we could collectively improve the patient care in India by identifying and addressing these neurological disorders. He was one of the youngest lead speakers to address the conference and to have his article published in the conference compendium. This was a good opportunity to interact with all the respected professors and members from the Indian Veterinary Academia and share the recent advancements in the field of Veterinary Neurology.

We hope to continue contributing actively to the scientific community in the future !

The Indian Canine Epilepsy Project :

Idiopathic Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions in dogs. India being home to a huge canine population both pets and community dogs combined. Veterinarians from our country do encounter this condition quite frequently in their day to day practice. With a dearth of veterinary neurology specialists in India, this condition is often managed by primary care veterinary practices.

My name is Dr. Prathmesh Deshmukh, I am a small animal Veterinarian from Mumbai. I have a referral Veterinary Neurology practice based in Mumbai by the name Acumed Veterinary Specialty. I have the opportunity to collaborate with the members of the neurology group from The North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the USA on a study that is now enrolling to gather information about the management of canine Idiopathic Epilepsy among Indian primary care veterinarians.

Goals of “The Indian Canine Epilepsy Project” are to better understand management practices and empower the Indian primary care veterinarians in the management of their canine epileptic patients.

This study is only open to registered veterinarians currently practicing in India with a valid National VCI / State Veterinary Licence. We believe you might qualify and we would love your feedback. This project involves completing a detailed survey which might take 15-20 mins of your time to gather information about epilepsy management in your clinic. Initially participating Veterinarians will receive an online gift card for submitting their responses as a token of appreciation.

Here is the link to participate and we would request that you share this link with your colleagues. (Kindly click on this link to participate)

MRI scans have now become fairly routine diagnostic modality in Vet practices in India. The current MRI scans have been helping us diagnose some of the common neurological diseases we encounter. But we feel we have only been scratching the surface. There is so much that we can potentially do with regards to diagnosing complex neurological cases by using the MRI machines the fullest.

Dr. Prathmesh Deshmukh continued his journey in Neurology and Neuro radiology by attending a course in "Diagnostic Imaging - Focus on Neuro Imaging". This course was conducted by the European School Of Advanced Veterinary Studies .eu . This was a great learning experience with amazing teachers Dr. Laurent Garosi & Dr. Ines Carrera who have been brilliant in their own fields for the past several years. They are experts in Veterinary Neurology and Imaging respectively and have contributed immensely in these fields. It was a pleasure and honour to have known them and to learn from them.

We hope to implement these updates in our practice and as always focus on improving patient care.

Dr. Prathmesh Deshmukh was recently invited by Ooty to conduct a 2 day course in Simplifying Veterinary Neurology & Its application in day to day practice. It was amazing to meet and interact with the delegates from all over the country. The lecture series was later accompanied with a workshop on conducting a neurological examination.
