One of my favorite bottom dwellers corydoras if i am not wrong the one in the picture id definitely the most commonly found species in the hobbyist circle. However its quite a beautiful and looks healthy..

A chubby looking corydoras with bright yellow fins definitely one of its standout features.

Amphibian are one of my most unexplored category of interest, but since i have got to see a lot of these species in vibrant colors and huge variants its quite intriguing for me to start researching and collecting data for such amphibians..

Abstract :: Hyla tsinlingensis (Hu et al., 1966), is endemic to China, and is widely distributed in the Qinling and Dabie Mountains. Previous studies have suggested that genetic differentiation and geographical isolation exist between the Qinling Mountains population and Dabie Mountains population of H. tsinlingensis, and that the Dabie Mountains population is a . Several Hyla specimens were collected from the Dabie Mountains of western Anhui Province, China during herpetological surveys from 2022‒2024; these specimens belonged to a species previously identified as H. tsinlingensis. Herein, we utilized phylogenetic analyses, morphological comparisons, and advertisement call comparisons, revealing significant differences from those of other known congeners; thus, we describe them as a new species. The discovery of this species implies that there are currently 18 identified species in the genus Hyla, 7 of which are found in China.

Four new species of snakehead are described from Myanmar - 𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑟𝑎𝑘ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎, 𝐶. 𝑟𝑢𝑏𝑜𝑟𝑎, 𝐶. 𝑐𝑜𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑎, and 𝐶. 𝑝𝑦𝑟𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑚𝑢𝑠 (all members of the '𝑔𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑢𝑎 group'). All are well known to fishkeepers who keep these beautiful species, being sought-after imports into the hobby.

𝗔𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁
We describe four new species of 𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑎 from Myanmar, all members of the Gachua group.

𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑟𝑎𝑘ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎, new species, is a species endemic to west-flowing streams on the western slope of the Rakhine Yoma in Rakhine State; 𝐶. 𝑟𝑢𝑏𝑜𝑟𝑎, new species, occurs in mountain streams south of Mogaung, Kachin State; 𝐶. 𝑐𝑜𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑎, new species, co-occurs with 𝐶. 𝑏𝑢𝑟𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎 in streams north of Putao, also Kachin State, at the foothills of the Himalayas; and 𝐶. 𝑝𝑦𝑟𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑚𝑢𝑠, new species, is found in streams in Tanintharyi Region at the southernmost tip of Myanmar, bordering Thailand.

All four species are readily diagnosed by their colour pattern from other Gachua group taxa. They show genetic distances of 3.5–19.9% in the COI barcoding gene to other Myanmar members of the Gachua group.

𝗘𝘁𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆
𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑝𝑦𝑟𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑚𝑢𝑠 - The species name is derived from the Greek words πῦρ (𝑝𝑦𝑟), fire, and ὀφθαλμός (𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑚𝑢𝑠), eye. It was inspired by the bright orange area under the eye, a colour reminiscent of that of glowing embers. Used as a noun in apposition.
𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑟𝑎𝑘ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎 - The species name is derived from the name of the area where it occurs, the Rakhine Yoma in western Myanmar, an adjective.
𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑟𝑢𝑏𝑜𝑟𝑎 - The species name, 𝑟𝑢𝑏𝑜𝑟𝑎, a noun in apposition, is derived from the Latin nouns ‘𝑟𝑢𝑏𝑜𝑟’ for redness, and ‘𝑜𝑟𝑎’ for rim. The name was inspired by the orange-red rim of the dorsal and caudal fins.
𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑐𝑜𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑎 - The species name is derived from the Latin adjective ‘𝑐𝑜𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑢𝑠’, -a , -um, red, alluding to the reddish markings on the head and sides of the body.
