At , artist Shabana Patel’s studio is not only a place for colour and learning. It is also a shared home. Community cats wander in, curl up, disappear, and return again, becoming part of the everyday rhythm of the space.
When a cat is unwell, Shabana takes them to the vet. When they are hungry, she feeds them. When they want to sleep through an afternoon class, she lets them. It feels natural, almost instinctive, like something humans once knew without needing to name it.
One of her students speaks about how the cats shape the studio. Their quiet presence softens the hours, steadies the vibe, and makes the space feel alive. The cats are not visitors. They belong there.
This is what coexistence looks like. Gentle, unforced, and deeply human.
Community cats do this to our cities. They soften them. They remind us to slow down, to notice, and to care without ceremony.
If you share your life, your street, or your workplace with a community cat, we would love to hear your story. Tell us how they found you, or how you found them.
Community cats make our cities softer. 🐾
