Canine parvovirus commonly causes severe illness in young and unvaccinated dogs.

Parvo in dogs and puppies is spread by contact with contaminated f***s, but you don’t have to see f***s for the virus to be present. It can live on surfaces that have been contaminated.

There is no specific cure for parvovirus in dogs and puppies, so treatment revolves around supporting a pup so their body can fight it off.

Cat having thick mucopurulent (pus-like) nasal discharge, crusting and discharge around the medial canthus of both eyes
Most likely causes:
1. Severe Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI / Feline flu complex)
Common agents: Feline herpesvirus-1, Calicivirus
Secondary bacterial infection causes thick yellow/green discharge.
2. Rhinitis–sinusitis
Especially if discharge is chronic or foul-smelling
Can be secondary to viral infection.
3. Dental disease with oronasal fistula
Upper canine/root infection can drain into the nose
Less likely unless there is bad oral odor or unilateral discharge.
4. Foreign body / nasal abscess
Usually unilateral initially.

Marked conjunctival swelling (chemosis)
Ulcerated, raw, red tissue exposed
Eyelids appear damaged / partially everted
These signs may be seen in
1. Severe Feline Herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) infection
Very common
Causes conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, chemosis, eyelid damage
Nasal lesions strongly support herpesvirus
2. Corneal ulcer / melting ulcer ± secondary bacterial infection
Especially if eye discharge was present earlier
3. Traumatic eye injury (scratch, bite, foreign body)
Often becomes infected secondarily
Eosinophilic keratoconjunctivitis (less likely, but possible)
Usually pink, fleshy lesions
