There was once a conure species, the Carolina Parakeet, that was native to the United States. These birds were hunted to extinction in the early 1900s. Carolina Parakeets would reportedly return to the hunting sites to mourn the loss of their flock members, making them easy returning targets for human hunters. This behavior is a clear display of what we already know - even the smallest of parrots are intelligent and emotional creatures who form meaningful relationships with each other.
