The blue bird from Rio is no longer extinct in the wild. 🦜✨
The Spix’s macaw—the “little blue macaw”—was declared extinct in the wild in 2019. But thanks to global conservation efforts, it’s officially back.
In 2022, 52 macaws were reintroduced to Brazil’s Caatinga region. Decades of breeding programs, habitat restoration, and international teamwork have brought this iconic bird from the brink to rebirth.
Its return is proof: extinction is not always forever. With enough care, collaboration, and hope, we can rewrite the fate of a species.
Some comebacks aren't just stories. They’re taking flight.
