Ranchi College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandary was established on 30th November, 1961. Ishaque, G.B.V.C., P.G (Germany), F.R.V.C.S (Sweden) joined as first Principal and under his dynamic leadership the main builiding, hostels and residential units were constructed. It was a constitutent college of Ranchi University and functioned under state animal husbandry departmen till 1970. With
the establishment of Rajendra Agricultural University (RAU) at Pusa, Samastipur, in 1971, this college became a constituent college of R.A.U. The college was established with undergraduate teaching only and it was n the year 1972 when P.G. These programmes were further strengthened in all major disciplines in 1977 onwards. This is the only veterinary college in India where so many variental animal and bird farms have been established including hatchery unit. In veterinary clinics, an Intensive Care Unit for small animals has also been started for the first time in the country. This has resulted into successful treatment and management of different types of serious clinical cases in pets. In addition, facilities of haemodialysis and advanced diagnostic laboratory has also been established. This has helped a lot in successfully treating cases of renal failure in particular for the police and army dogs.
