GOAT FEED FROM HAF®
Raising meat goats can be a very exciting and rewarding experience, but can also be very challenging. With a bit of preparation and understanding of the nutritional needs of goats, even the newest farmer can raise happy, healthy, fattened goats. While raising meat goats can be different than raising sheep or cattle for meat, it's still a gruelling process that takes time, patience, energy, and dedication. Goats are very energetic and burn a lot of calories through running around, so finding the right balance of nutrition to keep them gaining weight can be a challenge for even the most experienced farmer.
Grains are the quickest, easiest way to fatten up a goat because of the high carbohydrate content, but according to goat expert Dr. Aloa Caberli from Hindustan Animal Feeds R&D wing, your goat should receive no more than 900g of raw grain per day. Goats should be fed highly cooked grains for better digestion and feed conversion in live weight perspective.
Feeding may be the highest expense of any meat goat operation. Goats raised for meat need high quality feed in most situations and require an optimum balance of many different nutrients to achieve maximum profit potential. Because of their unique physiology, meat goats do not fatten like cattle or sheep, and rates of weight gain are smaller, ranging from 0.185 to 0.410 g/day. Therefore, profitable meat goat production can only be achieved by optimizing the use of high quality balanced goat feed with no additional unscientific grain uploads. This can be achieved by developing a year round feeding program allowing for as much as dry forage possible throughout the year.
Goat Fattener Feed
Goat Fattener Feed is an EXTREMELY HIGH COOKED complete goat feed ration containing all vital nutrients required for the growth of the Goat in the Weight Perspective. Fattener Feed has basic properties required for the types of Life Processes in the Goat Farming Business. It’s suitable for growth, breeding, lactation and weight gain perspective. No additional supplementation is required for the animal, when they are eating the stated feed. Green and Dry Fodder whatever is available is necessary but it has the negligible role in weight gain process. The role of green and dry fodder is just to satisfy the Bulk Appetite requirement of the Animals. We recommend that whatever is available in green and dry forages should be fed, no additional emphasis has to be give on it.
There are two basic feeding patterns is Goat Farming Business and they are:
• Free Choice Stall Feeding: Here the animals are free to eat as much as they can. In free choice best results in weight generation aspect can be derived because each and every goat has a distinct genetic potential to convert the feed in to live weight. So some may grow very fast and others may gain a lesser weight. It’s never possible that an animal consumes more and generates less weight. Based on genetic potential consumption may go up and simultaneously the weight gain is also going to upswing.
• Controlled Diet: here the farm management decided the feed quantity as per Farm Economics. By controlling the diet, one is suppressing the growth aspect also. But still many are satisfied with feeding in a controlled diet format. But it’s not a scientific approach.
Minimum Recommended Diet is applicable to those who don’t want to follow Free Choice Stall Feeding
Minimum Recommended Diet for Adults: 1500 g in two intervals and from the 8th day 1800g in two to three intervals
Minimum Recommended Diet for Kids: 900 g in two intervals and from the 8th day 1500g in three intervals
Or prefer feeding 3.5% of Live Body Weight basis
Note: High Weight gaining Animals, will be consuming higher quantity of feed. So it’s advisable not to follow static feeding pattern. It should be dynamic on performance basis. Some animal consume as high as 2500g to 3000 g in 24 hours. All the feedings has to be in multiple instalments.
