A day long awareness program was conducted at Yuksam Senior Secondary School by Yuksam Veterinary Dispensary and Yuksam PHC.
Students were made aware of the World zoonoses Day and theme for the year 2025.
The students were further sensitised regarding common zoonotic diseases of Sikkim and future aspects of prevention of zoonotic diseases.

A one-day veterinary civic action camp was successfully organized at Begha by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department. The camp aimed to provide essential veterinary services to the local livestock population, promoting animal health and welfare in the region.
A total of 35 beneficiaries availed the services during the camp.
The resource person for the program was Dr. Joshbina Thapa, Veterinary Officer, Dentam.

Case Report: Nonunion Complete Transverse Fracture of the Distal Metacarpal in a Calf at Heepatal

A case of a nonunion complete transverse fracture of the distal metacarpal bone was presented in a young calf at Heepatal. Upon clinical examination, a complete fracture of the metacarpal was confirmed.

The animal was properly restrained, and reduction and immobilization were achieved using reinforced RJ bandaging with fiberglass cast material. The procedure was performed carefully to ensure proper alignment and stabilization.

Following a dedicated post-treatment regimen and regular follow-up by the veterinary staff, the fracture site showed complete healing within one month. The calf regained normal weight-bearing ability and is now standing comfortably on all four limbs.

Case report

A nodular mass located in the cervical region of a 4-month-old calf was surgically resected at Changay, Dentam. Based on clinical characteristics and intraoperative findings, the mass was presumptively diagnosed as a fibroma. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, with no signs of recurrence noted during the observation period. Early diagnosis and appropriate surgical intervention are key to favorable outcomes in such cases.

Case Report

A canine patient was presented to DVH, Gyalshing with a mandibular symphyseal separation resulting from RTA (Road Traffic Accident). Upon clinical and radiographic evaluation, a diagnosis of traumatic mandibular symphyseal separation was confirmed. Under general anaesthesia, a circumferential stainless-steel wire was placed immediately caudal to the mandibular canine teeth to stabilize the symphysis. The procedure was performed successfully, and postoperative recovery was uneventful.

Distribution of milching cows to beneficiaries under the Project- "Sustainable Socio-economy Development of farmers of Gurung community through Dairying in Gyalshing District, funded by NEC". The programme aims to empower local farmers and strengthen their livelihood through sustainable dairy farming practices.

The event was led by the Hon’ble MLA-cum-Advisor, Mr. Sudesh Limboo, who attended as the Chief Guest. The Zilla Upa-Adhakshya graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Also present were CLC President Mr. D.N. Sherpa, Zilla Member Mr. Tarmit Lepcha, along with panchayat members and local beneficiaries.

A total of 30 beneficiaries from Manyebong-Dentam Constituency received milching cow with calf on foot, three milk canisters, and one year of insurance coverage. The allocation process was carried out through a randomized selection by the dignitaries to ensure transparency.

This initiative reflects the government’s continued efforts to uplift rural communities and promote self-reliance among farmers through livestock-based income generation.

Surgical correction (Herniorrhaphy) of Umbilical Hernia in a 4 months old calf at Mangmo, Dentam.

Assisted by Mr Sonam Palchen Lepcha (LA) and Mr Basudev Sharma (Lab Assistant).

The animal was reported to Dentam, Sub-divisional Veterinary Hospital with an abnormal protrusion in the umbilical region. Clinical examination revealed a protruded mass, which could be reduced through a hernial ring approximately fist-sized.
Post-recovery, the animal is in good condition.
