My Meter Tail Breed. # Senthil Arasu
The Meter Tail aseel (or “Meter vaal seval”) is a rare, indigenous long‑tail fighting‑type chicken lineage from Tamil Nadu, known for its exceptionally long main tail feathers and compact, game‑bread body frame.
The name comes from the fact that mature males can sport a tail of 1 metre or more (over 4 feet) in length, especially after careful line‑breeding and management.
It is essentially a specialized long‑tail Aseel line within Tamil Nadu’s native fighting‑cock complex.
After personal survey by Myself and Mr. Senthil Arasu sir we estimate there are fewer than 50 really good, long‑tail male birds in this specific “Meter Tail” line worldwide, with the true nucleus still concentrated in pockets of Tamil Nadu (Tirupur, Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai belts).
Because these birds are mostly kept for local breeding, exhibition, and informal cock‑farming circles, there is very little international documentation or recognition compared to other long‑tail breeds such as the Japanese Onagadori.
As a pure-bred indigenous Tamil Nadu asset, the Meter Tail has cultural and genetic value similar to other native breeds like Parrot‑beak Aseel, and short‑nose Aseel, but with extreme tail‑length specialisation.
Despite its striking appearance and limited numbers, it remains under‑documented and under‑promoted outside Tamil‑speaking cock‑breeding circles, which is why few poultry enthusiasts globally even know of its existence.
