What's on my mind this morning? Horsetail - and compost tea! I spent many years sharing information and preparing compost teas with friends here and in Assam, India. This article inspired me to make use of some of the locally available plants and materials that can help improve life in the soil and keep our gardens healthy!

...taking this opportunity to give a shout-out to Iqbal Iqbal Hussain, Babu Tanti, Sanjay and Rotary Club Digboi for helping to spread the word about practices that build healthy soil at Adarsh Seuj Prakalpa - Organic Demo Garden & Training Centre in Assam, India.
Long before the words "regenerative agriculture" became a part of our vocabulary, the staff at ASP were teaching and practicing techniques, including India's traditional Vedic practices, that increase the presence of beneficial bacteria, fungi and micro-organisms that we now know are essential to soil health.
You can read about volunteer opportunities in Assam or here in the Comox Valley on Fertile Ground's website, www.fertile-ground.org - and enjoy a short video about our teams important work here. 🌿

....enjoyed this article about studying the benefits of growing cover-crops in between rows of blueberries, cutting the crop and applying it to the soil to increase fertility and growth of beneficial micro-organisms. This is a practice SMALL TEA GROWERS in Assam could consider taking up as well. Done properly, it could benefit the soil AND increase crop production. Farm Folk City Folk is one of the first non-profits to promote organic and local farming here on Canada's west coast. Sharing the link to the article - it contains lots of useful information! https://farmfolkcityfolk.ca/2024/02/field-day-recap-on-farm-demonstration-to-promote-cover-cropping-in-blueberry-production/

Thank you, Rotary Club of Digboi, for arranging sessions like these with students, teachers and other community members. Together you are helping shape a greener environment and future! 🌿
