Celebration of ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan’ Week

Indian Council of Agricultural Research is celebrating ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan’ Week from 23 December to 29 December 2015 on the birth anniversary of former Prime Ministers Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Late Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh. The celebration is being organized keeping in view their immense contribution for promoting use of science for the welfare of farmers.

ICAR Institutes and KVKs across the country are organizing various farmer awareness programs aiming showcasing and demonstration of new technological advances for enhancing productivity and profitability of agriculture. Progressive farmers who have successfully adopted latest technologies and have made contribution in wide scale adoption of technologies by farmers will be honored.

To attract students towards agriculture essay writing competition, debates, group discussion, quiz competitions etc. will also be arranged in schools and colleges.

The crocodile that needed a tooth surgery

A team of veterinary surgeons successfully helped an injured crocodile by fixing its teeth in the university’s super specialty hospital in Bidar on Monday.

A team led by Dr. B.V. Shivaprakash, dean of Bidar Veterinary college, performed the procedure. The giant was caught by villagers of Chalkapur in Bhalki taluk on the banks of the Karanja river canals. They handed it over to Forest Department officials who sought help from the university. The animal was probably injured when its mouth was tied with ropes, the officials said.

The crocodile, which had suffered a mandible fracture, was sedated and X-rays and ECG were conducted. A special driller was used to bore through its jaw and Kirschner binding material was used to fuse bones. The procedure took 90 minutes, Dr. Shivaprakash said.

The crocodile is being nursed back to health by the Forest Department in a pond in Shahapur forest.
