🌿 Heifer Recovers from Lumpy Skin Disease (L*D) like symptoms using Ethnoveterinary Medicine! 🌿
A success story from Maradihundi village, Mysuru under NDDB’s DCAM initiative. In Maradihundi village, Nanjanagudu Taluk, Mysuru district, Karnataka, an 18-month-old crossbred heifer owned by Sri Basavaraj faced severe health challenges in October 2022. The animal exhibited Lumpy Skin Disease (L*D) like symptoms including lumps over the skin, recumbency, high fever, and corneal opacity, significantly raising concerns about its recovery and future productivity.
Upon consultation with Dr. Sunil Kumar K.K., Assistant Manager at MYMUL, the farmer adopted Ethnoveterinary Medicine (EVM) as part of the Disease Control through Alternate Medicines (DCAM) project.
EVM Treatment Timeline: 🔹 EVM started: 20th October 2022 🔹 EVM completed: 2nd November 2022
Treatment Application: The EVM formulation was used as per NDDB’s EVM Booklet. Details of the ingredients and application procedure can be viewed in the following links:

Recovery Status: The heifer showed remarkable improvement, fully recovering from the symptoms within two weeks of consistent EVM application. The corneal opacity subsided, fever normalized, lumps subsided and the animal regained its mobility and health.
Comparative photographs clearly illustrate the striking improvement from severe L*D symptoms to full recovery after Ethnoveterinary intervention.
This inspiring case highlights the efficacy, affordability, and safety of scientifically guided traditional treatments, promoting sustainable livestock health and farmer welfare.
