โ๏ธ Hot weather reminder from NSPCA Waterford โ๏ธ
With the warm weather this week, please keep an extra eye on pets, farm animals and local wildlife ๐
๐พ Make sure animals always have access to fresh, clean water
๐พ Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
๐พ Never leave animals in cars โ even for a few minutes
๐พ Check pavements before walks, as they can burn paws
๐พ Provide shade and cool spaces indoors and outdoors
๐พ Wildlife, birds and strays will also appreciate bowls of water left outside
๐ด We are also receiving a high number of calls regarding horses during the warm weather.
Please remember that horses must have constant access to clean drinking water and appropriate shelter/shade, especially during hot temperatures.
Sometimes water troughs may have just been emptied or are in the process of being refilled, so we kindly ask the public not to immediately assume neglect. However, if you are genuinely concerned about an animalโs welfare and believe it may be at risk, please contact us with the location and as much information as possible.
๐ชบ We are also receiving many calls about fledgling birds at the moment.
If you see a young bird on the ground, please do not automatically assume it has been abandoned. In many cases, the parents are nearby and still feeding and watching over them while they learn to fly.
If the bird is not visibly injured and is hopping around, it is usually best to leave it where it is and keep pets away from the area if possible.
If you are unsure or the bird appears injured, weak, or in immediate danger, please contact us for advice.
Thank you for looking out for animals in our community ๐ฟ
Stay safe and stay cool everyone โ๏ธ
