🐴”I just own a cob.”🐴
Do you find yourself saying this when people ask what type of horse you own?
Funny how that’s often said like it means “just”—as if a cob is somehow less. Less flashy. Less capable. Less impressive.
But anyone who’s ever sat on a good cob knows better.
A cob isn’t “just” anything. A cob is the horse that turns its hooves to everything & anything. The one that hacks out safely, carries beginners, then walks into a show ring and holds its own. The one that can pop a course, go hunting all day, step into dressage boards, or pull a cart without blinking.
They’re strong without being heavy, sensible without being dull, and completely versatile.
Look at the show ring—true traditional cobs are a discipline of their own, produced to perfection, balancing power, presence, and manners. Look at working hunter classes, where cobs prove they can jump and still ooze type. Look at riding club horses—the ones that do a bit of everything, week in, week out. More often than not, there’s a cob in the ribbons. Cobs have even competed at Badminton Horse Trials!
And beyond the spotlight? They’re the ones people trust. The confidence givers. The all-rounders. The horses that adapt.
So next time someone asks what type of horse you own -
🩶I don’t “just” own a cob. I own a cob one of the most versatile and valuable types of horses there is. 🩶
