🌸 Spring Reminder for Pet Owners 🌸
As the weather warms up, fleas and ticks become more active 🐜

Make sure your pet is protected with the right preventative treatment.

🐾 Signs Your Pet Might Have Fleas 🐾

Is your pet scratching more than usual? It could be fleas 👀

Watch out for these signs:
• Constant itching or biting
• Red or irritated skin
• Black specks in their fur (flea dirt)
• Hair loss or scabs

Fleas can cause serious discomfort—and even health issues if left untreated.

If you’re unsure, get in touch with us—we’re happy to help keep your pet itch-free 💙

🩺 The Importance of Pre-Anaesthetic Blood Tests 🩺

At Applewood Vets, your pet’s safety and well-being are our top priorities—especially when they need surgery or a procedure requiring anaesthesia. That’s why we highly recommend pre-anaesthetic blood tests for:

✅ Pets over the age of 7 ✅ Any pet with an underlying health condition

These tests help us:
🔍 Check organ function (especially liver & kidneys, which process anaesthesia)
❤️ Assess for hidden health issues that could affect recovery
⚖️ Tailor anaesthesia to your pet’s specific needs for a safer experience

💡 Did you know? It’s also highly recommended that all pets get a blood test every 6 months, especially if they are on long-term medication. Regular bloodwork helps us monitor their health, catch potential issues early, and adjust treatments if needed.

Even if your pet seems healthy, these tests give us vital information to ensure the smoothest procedure and best possible outcome.

If your furry friend has an upcoming procedure or is on long-term medication, talk to us about blood testing—it’s a small step that makes a big difference! 🐶🐱💙

🎄 Christmas Food Alert for Pet Owners! 🐾

Dear Clients,

As we all enjoy the festive season, it's important to remember that some common Christmas foods can be toxic for our furry friends. Please be cautious with the following:

Chocolate: Found in holiday treats like chocolate-covered nuts, cookies, and cakes 🍫

Grapes and Raisins: Often present in fruitcakes, mince pies, and Christmas puddings 🍇

Onions and Garlic: Common ingredients in stuffing, gravy, and various dishes 🌰

Alcohol: Can be found in Christmas cocktails, rum balls, and desserts like tiramisu 🍷

Xylitol (found in sugar-free treats): Present in sugar-free gum, candies, and baked goods 🍬

Cooked Bones: From holiday roasts like turkey and ham 🍖

If your pet ingests any of these foods, please seek immediate veterinary care. We want to remind you that our emergency services are available to help you during this holiday season and can be reached at 089-251-0309.

Stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas!
