How exciting to see more information and awareness coming into the human consciousness about the animals innate ability to keep themselves well. Hopefully this will result in a deeper understanding and empathy for animals everywhere.

This devoted lady did so much for the the equines abandoned and neglected in the area. Her legacy continues on as her the Team at her santuary Sathya Sai Sanctuary Trust for Nature continue her great work. Rest in Peace Sue x

It's with heavy hearts we share sad news. Our beautiful Sue finally lost her long running health battle this morning, passing peacefully in her sleep. She was comfortable and pain free, thanks to the dedication and care of the nurses in North West Hospice Sligo.
Sue leaves us with an amazing legacy. The Sanctuary was her life's work of love and dedication to abused, abandoned, neglected and forgotten donkeys and equines, and as Sue wanted, her sanctuary will continue.
We ask you bear with us at this difficult time. The Sanctuary remains closed to the public, and houses are strictly private.
Please remember Sue in your thoughts and prayers.

EQUINE ARTHRITIS!

As we head through Autumn and into Winter and the associated damp weather many 'oldies but goldies' suffer from arthritic pain

Here you can see Cora sequentially selecting Liquorice powder, St John's Wort and Devils Claw root herb along with Dandelion root powder for those essential vit's and min's. Selecting herbs for pain is far more effective and easy on the horse's body as the body is getting what it needs and as such can utilise it effectively to the body's best advantage

Earlier this year we welcomed Mini with her two baby girls now named Lily and Tilly. They have enjoyed roaming within well fenced areas in order to grow and maintain health. Initially when they arrived they selected Linden Blossom absolute to build their confidence and have also enjoyed herbs for deworming such as Neem and Wormwood.

Here at Whitethorn Equine Health, like many caretakers of the land, we understand the importance and benefits of interspecies grazing to support the pasture.
Goats are terrific at clearing the plants are areas that horses wont touch. They are also great characters and are an addition to any pasture although they can strip the bark on some trees - they particularly love goat willow!

Just keep doing what you do, Mini, Lily and Tilly - we appreciate your great efforts to keep the land thriving and healthy!

SIDE SADDLE ANYONE?
Stunning entries and participants on Side-saddle at the RDS Horse Show last month. How do they stay on? Scroll to the last pic and you will see a pic of a side saddle with the two pommels that the lady wraps her legs around in order to remain seated.

Side saddle was introduced to preserve the modesty of the Lady but was largely dispensed with in the early 1900's post womens emancipation and the sufferagette movement.
However, it has enjoyed a revival in the last 40yrs or so and it was absolutely delightful to see these ladys showing their skills at not just trot and canter but all out gallop!

DENTAL CHECK UP! The girls had the dentist out a few weeks ago. Absolutely awestruck with this Lady's instant rapport with my girls - no sedation required even though we had Evi the Vet Animal Acupuncture Vet on hand should sedation be required. They both stood very calmly and cooperated fully. Just minor floating required so happy that they are correct for another while. Fully recommend Diane Wilson at Sycamore Equine Dentistry
Russell was absolutely besotted with her too and could barely contain himself throughout his accupuncture session with Animal Acupuncture Vet
