A Smile For Every Rescue - Help Us Fund a New Dental Machine 🦷

Dental disease is one of the most common health problems we see in rescued animals at the NSPCA.
Our veterinary team carry dental procedures to relieve pain, treat infection, and restore comfort to animals.

Unfortunately, our existing dental machine has reached the end of its working life and is now beyond repair.
Without this essential equipment, our ability to provide vital dental care is at serious risk.

❗️We urgently need to purchase a new reliable dental machine, which will cost just under €10k

Friends, followers, and kind-hearted supporters across Ireland will you help us make this happen?

Every euro donated will go directly towards buying this life saving equipment.

Thank you as always for your kindness, generosity and continued support 💚

Hendrix - a playful boy with a heart of gold ❤️

At just a year old, this incredibly sweet German Shepherd cross is bursting with personality. He’s affectionate, full of energy and ready to share a lifetime of adventures with the right family.

Hendrix would thrive in an active home where he can enjoy plenty of walks and lots of playtime. After a fun-filled day, he’s more than happy to settle down for cuddles and enjoy all the belly rubs he can get.

As a young, large-breed dog, Hendrix would be best suited to an experienced family who can continue his training and socialisation, helping him grow into a confident, well-rounded boy.

He can be a little nervous in the car at times, so his new family will need to work with him patiently to build his confidence.

Hendrix would be happiest in a home with teenagers and he could live with another dog, pending a dog meet.

With the right guidance and love, this handsome boy has so much potential and will make a truly wonderful companion.

Interested in adopting Hendrix? Come visit him at📍NSPCA Longford. Open 7 days a week from 12-4pm. No appointment needed.

A Mother’s Call Saved Him 🥺

In Dungarvan, Co. Waterford two kind hearted women tried for several hours to rescue this tiny, 5 week old kitten from the bonnet of a car. He was so terrified that every attempt only caused him to retreat further into the engine.

NSPCA Inspector Alice arrived armed with tasty cat food to lure him out. After several unsuccessful attempts she placed her phone underneath the car and played a YouTube video of a mother cat calling her kittens.

A few minutes later, he peeked his tiny head out from beneath the under carriage answering the calls and started to make his way towards the phone. As soon as his tiny paws touched the ground, Inspector Alice grabbed him before he was ready to bolt once again.

The little kitten is now safe and although he is without his mother he is loved and will have a home to call his own soon.

Thank you to the two ladies who tried to rescue him and for getting in touch with the NSPCA Waterford for help.

I’m Cinders 🐱

I’m a super cuddly, curious little girl who loves exploring and then curling up for a cosy nap.

I’m just one year old and a total comfort queen - my favourite spot is my igloo bed, where I can peek out whenever I feel like saying hello 🥹

When Mocha Lost His Friend, He Found Three New Ones 😭

Mocha arrived into our care alongside his companion following a welfare call attended by NSPCA inspectors. At 13 years old, he was very uncertain when he arrived, but he showed great bravery and eventually managed to leave the horse box.

Sadly, his older companion was very unwell, and our veterinary team had to make the very difficult decision to let him go peacefully 🌈

Mocha really missed his special companion but over the following two weeks, he slowly began to heal thanks to the patience and care of our wonderful equine carer, Rebecca. Yesterday marked a very special moment when Mocha met three new friends at the shelter.

It was incredibly heartwarming to watch as the four of them trotted off together, giving Mocha a new family after losing his friend.

Sometimes, after loss comes friendship, and for Mocha, a new chapter has just begun ❤️

Another appeal for a very special boy 💔

At 6 years old, Wabi Sabi is the sweetest, most loving Staffordshire Bull Terrier you will meet.

When he first arrived at the NSPCA, he was frightened, shut down, and in poor condition. He needed veterinary treatment and lots of TLC. Thankfully, he has since made great progress.

Although he has been through a lot, this doesn’t hold Wabi Sabi back. Over the last while, we’ve watched him slowly come out of his shell, learn to enjoy life, and learn to discover that people can be kind.

He is currently with a loving foster family and is doing really well. Day by day, his sweet personality shines a little brighter.

Wabi Sabi is the most playful and affectionate little boy. He loves nothing more than spending time with people he trusts. He enjoys pottering around outdoors, taking in all the sights and smells, and searching for the biggest stick he can possibly find.

He is really good with dogs and is great with people. He could live with another dog pending a dog meet and he would be suited to a home with teenagers.

Due to previous trauma, Wabi Sabi has ongoing issues with his balance and coordination. He will need a family willing to look beyond his imperfections and see the incredible dog underneath - a dog who deserves to be loved, cherished, and given every chance to live a whole life.

Wabi Sabi has been waiting too long. He deserves a family. He deserves a home. ❤️

Will you be the one to finally give this sweet little boy the forever home he deserves?🐾

‼️ KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE IN HOT WEATHER ☀️

Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency that can cause seizures, organ failure, internal bleeding, coma, and even death.

Dogs are especially at risk during warm weather, particularly:
• Flat-faced breeds
• Overweight dogs
• Giant breeds
• Thick-coated dogs
• Very young and senior dogs

✅ Walk early morning or late evening only
❌ Avoid walks between 12pm–4pm
✅ Provide plenty of fresh water and shade
✅ Offer cooling treats such as ice pops
❌ Never leave a dog in a car, even for a few minutes

🐱 Cats already know exactly what to do, find the coolest spot in the house and sleep through the heat 😊

If in doubt, skip the walk. Your pet's safety comes first 🐾

Not Every Welfare Case Ends in Prosecution.

The conditions we find animals living in can be extremely distressing, and it can be easy for people looking from the outside to make judgments. But the reality is often far more complex.

Mental health struggles, personal crises, isolation, and overwhelming circumstances can all play a role in animal neglect. In many of these cases, the people involved did not set out to cause harm. They are struggling themselves and simply no longer have the ability to cope.

Our priority is always the welfare of the animal and removing it from a difficult situation. When an owner makes the difficult decision to surrender their pet to us, it can be the first step toward healing for both the animal and the person.

On Friday, this beautiful 16 year old girl left her past behind after her owner surrendered her to the NSPCA following a welfare call. Whatever hardships she has endured are now behind her.

Animal welfare is not always black and white and doesn’t always end in prosecution. Some cases need compassion more than conviction.
