Meet Oakie 🧡

Oakie came into the NSPCA from another rescue alongside his siblings when he was just 6 weeks old. He was adopted soon after, but through no fault of his own, he now finds himself back in search of a new home.

Now 11 months old, Oakie is a Collie x Spaniel with a huge heart and an even bigger love for people. He’s incredibly affectionate and thrives on attention. Oakie is an energetic and excitable boy who loves playing fetch, running around, and exploring everything the world has to offer.

Oakie is in the teenage stage of puppyhood which is the most difficult stage of life for dogs and the most common age for them to end up in shelters. As a mix of two intelligent, energetic working breeds, Oakie will need a committed family with experience of his breed types who are willing to continue his training and provide plenty of mental and physical stimulation to help him grow into a confident, well-rounded adult dog.

Oakie may be able to live with another dog, pending a successful meet. Due to his bouncy nature, he would be best suited to a home with older children who are comfortable around lively, energetic dogs.

Please note: Oakie is not currently based at the shelter. If you’re interested in adopting him, please visit the shelter to speak with a member of our Adoptions Team.

Could Oakie be the loyal, fun-loving companion you’ve been waiting for? 🧡

Meet Chisolm 🧡

This handsome little gentleman came into the NSPCA’s care as an owner surrender when his family could sadly no longer look after him. Understandably, the transition into shelter life was confusing at first, but he has since begun to settle in and show us just how special he is.

At the wonderful age of 14, this Jack Russell Terrier is truly one of the sweetest dogs you’ll meet. No senior dog should be spending their golden years in a shelter, Chisolm deserves a cosy couch, endless treats, and lots of TLC.

While he may be a golden oldie, Chisolm still has plenty of life in him. He enjoys his walks, loves to explore, and happily runs about with enthusiasm.

Chisolm would be best suited to a quieter home with a family who will cherish and spoil him. He may be able to live with another dog, pending a successful dog meet.

Being an older Chisolm, he does have some health issues. He has a grade 3 heart murmur, which currently requires no medication or treatment, but will need monitoring as he continues to age with his new family.

Could this dapper little soul be the loyal, loving companion you’ve been waiting for?

Come visit him at our Dublin shelter - Rathfarnham, Dublin 16. Visitor opening times: Tues-Sun, 12-4pm. No appointment required.

When you adopt, you change a life. And you help us save more.🐾

Simon, another unwanted puppy 💔

It is only the first full week back after Christmas and Simon is the second puppy surrendered to the shelter this week after being bought online. The family who bought him have now returned to work and, unfortunately did not realise just how much time, commitment, and responsibility he required. While this is heartbreaking to see, they did make the right decision for little Simon by bringing him to the shelter.

Welcoming a pet into your home is a huge, lifelong commitment.

When you adopt a pet from the NSPCA, our expert dog rehoming team is there to guide and advise you on everything you need to know and what to expect when bringing a new puppy into your home. Puppies require lots of time, patience, training, and consistency to help them grow into confident, happy adult dogs.

Again, we are pleading with the public to always adopt, and think long and hard before getting a puppy.

If you do have a puppy and you’re finding it a bit overwhelming, our Puppy Play Sessions are a great way to support you both. These relaxed, fun sessions help puppies get comfortable around new people, other dogs, and the busy world around them. Our sessions run weekly, every Saturday.

Meet Snowy & Madame Carrot 🐰

This adorable bunny duo came into the NSPCA’s care after being found living in unsuitable conditions. Poor ventilation had left their eyes sore and their coats were matted, but with proper care and attention, they recovered quickly and have settled in well to shelter life.

At just one years old, these affectionate little girls spend their days exploring their surroundings, nibbling on tasty treats, and keeping each other company. They love cuddles too.

Snowy and Madame Carrot previously lived in a busy, lively home with other rabbits, so they’re well used to an active environment. They would make a wonderful addition to a family looking to welcome the sweetest bonded bunny pair into their home.

Now they’re ready to hop straight into a loving heart, and a forever home.

Could Snowy and Madame Carrot be the perfect buns for you? 🧡

Come visit them at our Dublin shelter - Rathfarnham, Dublin 16. Visitor opening times: Tues-Sun, 12-4pm. No appointment required.

Meet Rose 🧡

Rose came into our care through our inspectors after being found as an injured stray. Since arriving at the NSPCA, she has become a firm favourite with staff and volunteers.

Her beautiful personality shines through more every day. This sweet girl is the most playful and affectionate Rottweiler Cross you will meet.

Rose is a big fan of cuddles even if she doesn’t always realise just how big she is. She is an energetic girl, who loves her play time and getting out for her daily walks.

She can be a little shy when meeting new people at first, but it doesn’t take long for her to warm up. Once she does, she wants to be right by your side, joining in on whatever fun is happening.

Rose may be able to live with another dog of a similar temperament, pending a dog meet. Due to her bouncy, excitable nature, she would be best suited to a home with teenagers or adults only.

With her loyal nature, Rose will make a wonderful companion for the right family.

Could you offer her a place on your couch and in your heart?

Come visit her at our Dublin shelter. She would love to meet you. We are open Tuesday to Sunday from 12-4pm. No appointment needed.

Mikey hopes you have a wonderful day. He’s one of our many beautiful, playful dogs patiently waiting for a best friend and a loving forever home.

Come visit Mikey at our Dublin shelter, he would love to meet you and show you just how special he is.

We are open from 12-4pm Tuesday to Sunday. No appointment needed.

From big to small and young to old, we have so many adorable faces waiting to be loved - each one ready to melt hearts and bring joy to the right family.

When you adopt from the NSPCA your new pet will be vaccinated, microchipped and registered, up to date with flea and worming treatments and neutered (or, if they’re too young, we’ll provide an appointment for when they’re ready).

Adopting from the NSPCA is such a wonderful thing to do. You’re not just giving a dog a home, you’re giving them a second chance at the happy life they deserve.
In a world where animals can often be treated so badly, choosing adoption is something to be proud of.

247 days…waiting, but still hoping. 💔

Our sweet boy Pedro had a wholesome and much-needed break from the shelter over Christmas thanks to a foster family.

Pedro’s journey has been anything but easy, and he’s starting to wonder if anyone will ever choose him.🙁

In early May, he was found abandoned, tied to the gates of the NSPCA. This handsome boy quickly captured the hearts of staff and volunteers with his kind nature, beautiful personality and ever wagging tail.

He is a 3 year old Lurcher Cross and the friendliest boy you will meet and loves to say hello to everyone. He can be enthusiastic when greeting people, so he would benefit from some basic training with his new family to help him learn some new skills and settle into his new home.

As he is a big playful boy he would be best suited to a home with teenagers or adults and he could possibly live with another dog pending a dog meet.

What Pedro really dreams of is a family to share adventures with, whether it’s hiking, running, or simply zooming around the garden. And when the fun is over? He’ll happily curl up beside you on the couch for cuddles by the fire.

Pedro hasn’t given up. And neither have we. Maybe you are the one he’s been waiting for.

Come visit Pedro at our Dublin shelter - Rathfarnham, Dublin 16. Visitor opening times: Tues-Sun, 12-4pm. No appointment required.

Cat Rehabilitation 🧡

It’s always a busy day in Cat Rehabilitation with lots of cats & kittens to be cared for.

Every cat or kitten that comes into shelter starts their journey in Cat Rehabilitation where Maria and the team look after them.

When they are cleared by our veterinary team, they will head off to the Cattery and will be available for adoption.

Christina and her team will look after them until they find their forever homes.🐾

History of the DSPCA

The Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was established in 1840 and is the oldest and largest animal charity in the Republic of Ireland.

In its early days the Society was known as the Dublin Auxiliary of the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals and it was founded the year the RSPCA received Royal Patronage, over the years it has had many names including “The Dublin Home for Starving and Forsaken Cats”.

The Society was based at Grand Canal Quay in Dublin City from its formation in 1840 up until 1990, and generations of Dublin people were familiar with it as “The Dogs and Cats Home” and at times as “The Cats & Dogs Home”.

In 1990 the Society moved to the Potterton Restfields at Stocking Lane in Rathfarnham, a suburb of Dublin. The land was bequeathed to the Society in the 1930s as a place to graze retired working horses.
