Wednesday group walk we were up early and back home before the sun really took to boiling the earth 🌎 🙈

❓ Does your dog enjoy daycare should be a consideration often (and assessed often)

💤😴 Most dogs need more rest than we think

⚠️ your dog should be calmly tired- not exhausted from overstimulation

Walking the roads around the house this morning, what can you spot here ?

Ruckus’ leash is relaxed even though he is not walking to heel and he checked in with me (treat given and that’s why he was licking)

Mixie needs a little bit of a refocus, her leash is tighter than I’d like and she is very focused on all the animals that were out overnight peeing on the ground 😅

How do we fix this?

A few different ways:

🐾 Reinforce our bond with rewarding communication of checking in with me

🦮 Not moving ahead when the leash is too strained (good incase I have to walk her on a collar on day)
Also not moving when the leash is too tight and she checks in with me, I have an opportunity to reward the behaviour I am looking for, which is a loose leash

🙌 Play fun games like LAT or 1,2,3 and get her focused on me some of the time instead of constantly on the ground.

🐾 I’d like to point out that sniffing is not ‘wrong’ but she is displaying more of a ‘tracking’ behaviour and I would like my dogs to realise that I’m also on the other end of the leash and here to help if they need me 💜

3 different videos- none perfect - no editing !
I didn’t do fancy here on social media, I like to show the real, raw footage that has the skills shown as a trainer with the realistic expectations of a dog owner.

I train companion pets and yes my training skills and when teaching the technical bits are on target and timed on point- but this is real life and no one is perfect 🙌

Sometimes I like to remind myself dogs we might have to get on the leash while on our walk and no better place to practice than on group walk !

Minimal distraction in a group of known dogs and I can also see what I need to work on, which is pace while on the leash so they don’t get pulled (piper likes her speed 😅) and staying closer to me while on the leash.

Nothing is perfect here- but could I have safely lead them past something or avoided a situation? YES - and the best part, they got to go back off leash after so no negative emotions about the leashing up while out.

We are companion pet dog guardians and safety and welfare are so important when building relationships with our dogs.

TURBO GONE IN MY CAR 🙈

Yesterday my amazing neighbour and friend had to rescue me from the side of a very busy road as my car no longer drives.

Garages can’t get to her until Thursday / Friday- so I am asking the AMAZING friends and clients I have here in Ireland, if you know of any cars for sale (very inexpensive as - dogs 😅) and automatic???

- OR -
Any courtesy automatic car I could borrow for a few weeks? I’ll pay of course and have it details before return.

My whole job is driving and I would be so sad if I had to cancel adventure walks this week 😢

Thank you to everyone who sent messages asking if I was okay and especially my girl Susan who not only rescued me, but also made me cinnamon rolls 🥮 💜🐾
