Baroda Stud

Baroda Stud A historic Stud farm run by David & Tamso Cox set in the heart of the Thoroughbred County of Kildare

Under their current ownership of the Cox family, Baroda and Rosetown Stud Farms have been developed into a boutique stud operation, offering temporary and permanent boarding for mares. The two farms cover a total of over 450 acres of the highest quality limestone land, which has the reputation of being some of the finest soil in all of Ireland. They provide excellent facilities to board mares and

spell horses and our experienced staff pride themselves on their attention to the horses in their care. Located in the heart of thoroughbred country just outside Newbridge in Co. Kildare, Baroda is conveniently placed to avail of the services of many of Ireland’s top stallion farms. Walk-out mares are teased, vetted and ready for covering before being transported, using our own vehicle to the stallion, which means we ensure your mare is covered at the optimum time. Our facilities are currently being used by clients from Ireland, France, UK and USA and owners are very welcome to call at anytime to see their horses or indeed to visit the farms.

Did you know❓

Baroda Stud is a long established farm steeped in history. The lands were once associated with the nearby Great Connell Priory, founded around 1202. Originally a dairy farm known as Connellmore, the purchase of a yearling full-brother to the Epsom Derby winner Dante in 1945 by the Maharajah of Baroda inspired its shift into a breeding operation.

Named Sayajirao (pictured), he went on to achieve Classic success, winning both the Irish Derby and the Irish St Leger in 1947. Because of this, the Maharajah acquired Connellmore and transformed it into Baroda Stud, establishing the farm as the future home of Sayajirao at stud.

Looking through the archives, we remember this week seven years ago when Gypsy Island won the Grade 3 Weatherbys General Stud Book Irish EBF Mares INH Flat Race, also known as the mares’ bumper. Gypsy Island was a homebred, raised at Baroda, and sold by Baroda and Colbinstown at the .ie August National Hunt Sale in 2017. Best of luck to Even Tho, running in the same race this evening, who was consigned by us at the Arkle Sale 2024.

Following on from Magic Day, our horses are making the most of this - along with the sunshine of course! ☀️

Magic Day is a specific day in early April when the grass growth is greater than the daily herd demand, with plenty of nutrient-rich grass available for our mares and foals.

This pair really felt the benefits of Magic Day today with the sunshine on their backs!
