🐾✈️ How to Get an Pet Passport for Your Furry Friend! 🐶🐱

Getting a pet passport is a crucial step if you plan to travel abroad with your furry friend. Here are the simple steps to ensure your furry companion is ready for international travel:

🟢Visit Your Vet for the Pet Passport: Visit us well in advance of your trip.

🟢Microchipping: Your pet must be microchipped and registered on an Irish microchip database. This is a requirement for identification purposes. The microchip must be implanted before the rabies vaccine can be administered.

🟢Your Vet will issue your Pet’s Passport: Your vet will fill out the necessary details, including the microchip number, vaccination dates, and other essential health information.

🟢Rabies Vaccination: This vaccination must be done at least 30 days before travel. If your pet has had a rabies vaccination before, ensure it is still valid and that the booster shots are up-to-date.

🟢Additional Treatments (if required): Depending on the destination country, additional treatments such as tapeworm treatment may be required. Ensure you check the specific requirements for your travel destination and have these treatments recorded in the passport.

Please keep in mind that it is not the responsibility of your vet to know the rules for every country. The best course of action is to consult official resources, such as government websites well in advance of your trip.

With these steps, your furry friend will be all set for their adventure abroad! 🌍🐾 If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to drop by our clinic or give us a call. Safe travels! 🐶✈️🐱

🪳ALL ABOUT TICKS🪳

With the recent warm weather, we're seeing a noticeable increase in tick activity. These small, parasitic arachnids thrive in such conditions, making it essential to be extra cautious. Ticks feed on the blood of mammals, birds, and sometimes reptiles and amphibians. They go through four life stages: egg, larva, nymph, and adult. Each stage requires a blood meal to progress to the next.

They are commonly found in grassy, wooded, and bushy areas where they wait for a host to pass by. Ticks can attach themselves to both animals and humans, posing a risk of transmitting diseases such as Lyme disease. It's important to be vigilant, especially during peak tick season from spring to early autumn.

To protect your pet, ensure they are up to date on tick prevention treatments. These can include topical solutions or oral medications, all designed to repel or kill ticks before they can cause harm.

Regularly checking your pet for ticks after outdoor activities and maintaining their grooming routine can also help reduce the risk of tick-borne diseases. If you find a tick, don’t worry—our team is ready to provide guidance and support on removal and prevention. 🐶🐱 Feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We're here for you and your pets! 💚📞

Banjo's visit to Highfield Vets today was all about some TLC for his ear! 🐾

He's a brave little guy getting his ear bandaged after dealing with an aural hematoma. An aural hematoma is a collection of blood between the cartilage and skin of the ear flap. Banjo had his ear drained and was so good when the team wrapped his ear.

Sending lots of love and speedy recovery vibes his way! 💙

Ultrasound scans are a non-invasive way to peek inside your pet’s body and check on those vital organs—like the heart, liver, and kidneys—without causing any discomfort. 🩺

While ultrasounds are commonly used to confirm and monitor pregnancies, they can also identify conditions like tumours, cysts, and fluid build-up. 🔍

Here are some behind the scene photos of our teams performing ultrasounds, giving you a glimpse of the care and precision that goes into every scan. 📸🐶🐱

🌟 Celebrating Vet Nurse Awareness Month! 🌟

Did you know that vet nurses are the superheroes behind the scenes in animal care? Behind every healthy pet and relieved pet owner, there's a vet nurse who has played a crucial role. 🥰

Vet nurses wear many hats at the practice. They assist in surgeries, ensuring each procedure runs smoothly and safely. They provide critical nursing care, monitoring vital signs and offering post-operative support. Vet nurses are also educators, guiding pet owners with advice on nutrition, exercise, and general care. They are skilled comforters, providing emotional support to both pets and their owners during stressful times. Additionally, they perform diagnostic tests, administer medications, and manage patient records, ensuring every aspect of an animal's treatment is meticulously documented.

Their dedication and compassion know no bounds as they work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of our furry, feathered, and scaled friends. 💚

Join us in showing appreciation for the incredible work our vet nurses do each day. 🐾💕

❌FOUND DOG, PLEASE SHARE ❌

A dog has been found who has been involved in a minor RTA with a few cuts and scraps. He was found on the Trim/ Navan Rd close to Supermacs. Male un-neutered Collie type appears to be quite a young dog, no chip but very friendly temperament so someone must be missing him. Currently with the finder.
