Neurodiversity Celebration Week: The Power of Community

One of the most beautiful things about being neurodivergent is finding our people. The ones who don’t just understand us but see us—the way we communicate, the way we process the world, the way we light up when we talk about our passions.

For so long, neurodivergence has been framed through the lens of deficits and struggles. But when we step into spaces where we don’t have to mask, where we can stim freely, info-dump without apology, or sit in comfortable silence, we begin to see something else—a culture.

We have a rich, beautiful, messy culture, built on deep focus, boundless creativity, unique humour, and an unfiltered way of experiencing the world.

A culture where intensity isn’t ‘too much’—it’s just how we love, learn, and exist.

A culture where we don’t force each other into neurotypical moulds but celebrate the way our minds naturally work.

So, this week, I celebrate:

🔥 The moments we stop apologising for who we are.
🔥 The friendships that make us feel real.
🔥 The relief of knowing we’re not alone.
🔥 The quiet power of self-trust, slowly returning.

You were never ‘too much.’ You are authentically yourself, just as you should be.

This month marks 7 years since I officially became owner of Gymboree Meath. I’ve been reflecting on the journey I’ve been on for this past 7 years. We got off to a challenging start with the Beast from the East forcing me to close for most of my first week of business. And then, just as class numbers had risen significantly, Covid-19 arrived in 2020 forcing me to close my doors yet again, on and off, for 2 years. To further complicate things, Gymboree decided to pull out of Ireland meaning I had to rebrand to Play and Music Meath. It has taken a while to get class numbers back up to pre-Covid levels but thankfully the past year has been my busiest yet.
What got me though all of these challenges was just concentrating on my customers and what they need. The babies who need connection and stimulation, the toddlers who need freedom to be themselves, a place where they can play and learn and have lots of fun, and their parents who need a welcoming space to come and enjoy quality time with their children as well as connection with fellow parents. I provide all of this with the most flexibility possible, because I know all too well how difficult it is to plan your week’s activities with little ones who might not have a good night’s sleep or can pick up bugs regularly. My classes run weekly throughout the year, and you do not need to sign up for a term. You can come and go as you please and my door is always open. I also want to make my classes as affordable and accessible as possible for all. That is why my prices have not increased. You can do a play and music class for the same price today that I paid in 2008 when I went to my first class.
It gives me enormous pleasure to be able to provide this space for my customers and I value each and every one of you. It is an honour and a privilege to be a small part of your little ones development and to watch them grow and learn as the weeks, months, and years roll by. I look forward to many more years and conquering the new challenges that may be ahead.

New class added on Saturdays @ 11am. Our 10am class has been booked out for the past few weeks so I'm adding an extra class to meet demand. Numbers will be limited to half our usual capacity to cater for those who prefer a quieter class.

Our Story

"Gymboree's philosophy is that children learn best when allowed to actively explore in an environment that is fun and appeals to their natural curiosity and desire to learn, supported by the people who matter most in their lives."

- Claire Lerner LCSW, child development specialist, Director of Parenting Information and Resources at ZERO TO THREE®

At Gymboree, you and your child will build creativity, confidence and lifelong friendships. Gymboree programs are specially designed to help young children learn and develop as they play. Our classes also help you learn about your child -- how to participate in and encourage his or her development -- while enjoying the simple pleasure of playing together.
