Some of our most rewarding visits involve treating nervous pets who struggle in a clinic environment. I have been bitten a couple of times when this translates to aggression for the owner or the vet, but it stems from real fear and distress in the animal, so I never take it personally!

Watching an anxious dog relax in their own garden while I treat him, or examining a shy cat while she sits calmly on their favourite chair reminds me everyday why home veterinary care works so well.

If your pet sounds like this, and clinic visits are fraught with anxiety - please take the stress-free option and get in touch!

Why did David Fagan chose to become a mobile vet? ๐Ÿš™ The answer is simple.

Pets behave differently in their own surroundings. They are calmer, owners are more relaxed and there's more time to observe the pet, chat with the owner and understand what's really going on. Some of the best consultations happen in your own sitting room! ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ

If youโ€™d like me to visit for a home consultation with your pet or pets, just get in touch!

Some of my clients choose a Home Vet, because of mobility issues for the pet or the family. Elderly dogs don't always enjoy climbing into the car and sometimes cannot be lifted. Some owners have mobility or health challenges themselves.

Home visits removes the stress of travel . The pets receive expert care conveniently, and where they feel safest. If youโ€™d like me to visit your area for a home consultation, just get in touch!

Is your pet sick, or just having an "off day"?
How do you know when to call the vet?
Is it the heat?
Is it just aging?

Here are some signs that medical care might be needed - even if it's not a true emergency. In these cases, you can usually wait for a Scheduled Appointment as the situation is not urgent.
๐ŸคณMild digestive upset: Vomiting or diarrhea more than once or twice - but without without lethargy or blood.
๐ŸคณSkin issues: Mild itching, scratching, or small rashes.
๐ŸคณEars: Mild head shaking or scratching at ears without a bad smell or heavy discharge.
๐ŸคณAppetite changes: Skipping a single meal or slight decrease in energy.
๐ŸคณMinor limping: Walking slightly stiffly but still putting weight on the leg and acting happy.
In these cases - wait and see how the pet progresses for a day or so.

Myth Monday: 'Indoor cats don't need vaccinations.' โŽ This one is definitely False!

Your kitty won't be too happy to hgear this, but even cats that never leave the house can be exposed to infectious diseases brought in on clothing, shoes or by visiting animals. Preventative care is always better than treatment - and EVERY pet needs to be vaccinated. Preventative care also costs less than treatment, and gives responsible pet owners great peace of mind ๐Ÿ‘

If youโ€™d like me to visit your area to get caught up on vaccines, even if you are not sure what your pet may be due to get, just get in touch and we'll sort it out!

I get asked a lot how people should know if a pet is really sick, or just "off form".
How do you know when to call the vet?

I'd say there are some red flags to look out for, when you must always make the call.
๐Ÿ›‘ Breathing trouble: Laboured breathing, gasping, or choking. Persistent coughing.
๐Ÿ›‘ Trauma and bleeding: Sounds obvious - but if your pet has been hit by a car, had a fall, or has bleeding that does not stop.
๐Ÿ›‘ Poison: Eating chocolate, human medicine, household cleaners, chemicals or toxic plants.
๐Ÿ›‘ Inability to eliminate: Straining to p*e or p**p with no results.
๐Ÿ›‘ Neurological issues: Sudden collapse, seizures, or loss of consciousness.
๐Ÿ›‘ Pain: Crying out, extreme restlessness, moaning, whimpering or a swollen, hard belly.

These symptoms indicate that something serious could be wrong. Don't panic, but also don't delay, contact the vet for an urgent appointment.

What's in David's vet bag? ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’‰๐ŸŒก๏ธ๐Ÿ’Š

Well, a bit like Mary Poppins, I think I have nearly everything in there!

I bring along everything needed for most common veterinary appointments, including diagnostic equipment, vaccinations, microchips, prescription meds, and the essentials required to provide professional care in your own home. We bring the consultation room to you.

More complex follow up tests or surgery are carried out by myself in a nearby partner clinic, and I make all the arrangements for that, if it's needed. The goal of this service is to offer the ultimate in convenience for the family as well as the best of care for the pet!

Some pets leave paw prints that never fade. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

A friend recently surprised me with this beautiful recreation of my own two dogs, who both passed away over the last year after long, happy lives. Seeing them together again brought back so many wonderful memories.

As a vet, I know that saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest moments any family will face. They arenโ€™t โ€œjust petsโ€ โ€“ theyโ€™re family members, loyal companions, and part of our everyday lives.

One of the reasons I started Mullingar Home Vet was to help make difficult moments a little gentler. Whether itโ€™s caring for an elderly pet, helping them stay comfortable at home, or providing compassionate end-of-life care in familiar surroundings, my aim is always to put your petโ€™s comfort and your familyโ€™s wellbeing first.

If you have an older pet who would benefit from veterinary care in the comfort of their own home, Iโ€™m here to help.
