KK patterns Knitting with hands frees the mind My name is Kristina Kavaliauskiene. I started knitting when I was about 6 years of age. There was a period when I didn’t knit.

Originally I’m from Lithuania but living in a beautiful countryside in Ireland together with my husband, two kids, and a dog. I remember my father made me two short needles by cutting my mother’s needle in half. He attached two pieces of rubber and bent the ends so my garment won’t fall off - exactly like my mother’s. I was in a full swing changing colors after each row and getting lost between th

e yarns at the end. My first garments were for my dolls (throws, rugs, vests made from two knitted rectangles sewn together). Later, I was sketching sweaters on paper and asking my mother’s to knit my designs. I felt I was too slow in knitting to take up such big projects at that time. And after a while, I was able to design and knit on my own. We weren’t wealthy, so I used to disassemble sweaters to recycle some yarns. I remember us going to a charity shop and buying the biggest cardigan they had (expecting to recycle enough yarn for the project). I related hand-knitting with poverty. And instead of going to the charity shop to buy the biggest cardigan - I was shopping for the best fit one. Knitting passion came back when I was pregnant with my daughter. I wanted to knit something unique, something just for her. And I hadn’t stopped knitting ever since. After having my son - a few years later - I’m looking forward to taking my needles as often as I can. It helps me to calm down, boosts my creativity and positive thinking (almost the same as meditating, but you end up with a garment). Now each and every pattern I design is inspired, created and tested by my family, friends and our pets. Sending you love,
Kristina
