Hi Everyone,
Not a usual post from me but....
Over the past few weeks, we have been deeply concerned by the number of abandoned animals being brought into our clinic by kind-hearted members of the public.
Just today, two young puppies were found on the Cork Road, dumped in a cardboard box in the middle of the road. They were frightened, vulnerable, and heartbreakingly close to being struck by passing traffic. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident.
As veterinary professionals, we are seeing more and more cases of animals being neglected, abandoned, or left to fend for themselves. While our team works tirelessly to care for every animal that comes through our doors, situations like these are completely preventable.
If you do not intend to breed from your pet, please consider neutering. Responsible pet ownership includes preventing unwanted litters and ensuring that every animal has a safe and loving home. The cost of neutering is far less than the emotional and physical toll suffered by animals that end up abandoned.
We are incredibly proud of our staff, who consistently go above and beyond to provide care, comfort, and second chances to animals in need. Their dedication, compassion, and professionalism make a difference every single day. However, credit is also due to the members of our community who stop, help, and bring these animals to safety rather than turning a blind eye.
If you find yourself in a situation where you can no longer care for your pet, please reach out. We would much rather help find an appropriate alternative home than see an animal abandoned, neglected, or put at risk.
A shoutout to the many rescues around us who do this work day in and day out.
Animals depend on us for their welfare. Together, we can do better.
All the best,
Tara
