🏆🏆Cheltenham Selections Competition 2022 🏆🏆

We are running a competition for our members this week for The Festival, here are the rules:
- pick 2 horses for each day
- pick weather you are selecting win or each way for each horse
- the price of the selections will be the SP
- the selections must be sent in via WhatsApp or messenger by 12 each day for the racing on that day
- only members of the society can play
- the highest points at the end of the week will be our winner

Our main prize is currently a UL horse racing jacket and there are also other prizes for longest priced selection and best double of the festival.
If your a student in UL and want to play, it’s not to late to join and get your selections in!

We are delighted to announce that we have one of our very own members representing us in the Horseware Ireland Student Derby which will be taking place at The Curragh Racecourse on the 26th of October.

The race is the first of its kind, thanks to the European Student Horse Racing Federation. The race will include riders from many Universities in Ireland and further a field such as Oxford, Nottingham and Cardiff Universities to name a few.

EMHF fellowship observer competition- Entries closing January 31st!!

Do you have any budding ideas on how to promote horse racing amongst students and young adults? Well then this competition is for you!

To enter simply write Max 500 words on the subject “what should racing administrators in the European and Mediterranean region do to encourage greater participation in horse racing among young adults in particular among students ? “

The winner will be invited to present their ideas at the next EMHF general assembly on May 15-16th 2021 which is currently planned to be an in person event in Warsaw, Poland. Included are all expense for the winner of this trip.

Open to all members of the affiliated societies to the ESHF which UL horse racing is now a part of.

The Cheltenham Festival is nearly here!
For the first time ever, we are running the UL Horse Racing Society Cheltenham Challenge - a tipping competition amongst ourselves on the biggest week in jumps racing.

The rules are very straightforward. For each of the four days of the Cheltenham (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday), we have a form in which you must fill in your name and student email, as well as one horse for each of the races on the day. Forms must be completed before the first race at 1.30pm each day, any entries after that stage aren't valid. It's FREE to enter and is for members only.

The scoring is based on the odds that the winning horse returns at. For example, if you select a 5-1 winner, you receive 5 points in the competition. If you pick a loser, your score is reduced by 1. Whoever has the highest score by the end of the week wins!

There will be a small Cheltenham prize for the winner but the bragging rights as UL's Top Cheltenham Tipster is surely the greatest incentive of all! Make sure to have a go, it should be good fun for the week. We'll update the leaderboard each night after racing when the next day's form will be released.

** TRIP NOTICE **

We’re delighted to announce details of our upcoming trip on Thursday 20 February to trainer Enda Bolger’s unique cross country training centre in Bruree, County Limerick, followed by an afternoon of jump racing at Thurles Racecourse.

Enda has been very kind to allow us in to see his hugely impressive stables, home to the likes of hunter chasing legend On The Fringe, high-class chaser Ballyoisin and Yanworth, one of the leading contenders to dethrone Tiger Roll next month at the Cheltenham Festival.

Depending on numbers, the trip will cost only €10 or €12, which includes transport costs from UL to Bruree to Thurles and back to UL, as well as a ticket for Thurles Racecourse on the day. We’ll be leaving UL at 9.30am and should be back at 6.00pm.

We’ve made the trip as affordable as possible and would love to have a strong turnout - ALL are welcome, with the trip open to new and existing members.
