Leave all your cares and worries behind in 2021….

While there’s no doubt that this year has been a year with a mix of ups and downs, particularly for our hospitality sector, it’s important to remember the highs and those special memories made in

Thanks to each and every visitor from far and wide (and closer to home 😉) who visited Downings in 2021, supported a local business and made lasting memories.

Here’s to another exciting year - happy new year everyone 🎉

Green light for the Carrigart to Downings greenway..

I am delighted that approval has been granted by An Bord Pleanala this afternoon.

This is brilliant news for the region and so important from a community and tourism point of view in terms of health and safety and will be a huge asset to Carrigart and Downings.

I would like to acknowledge the diligence of the officials at Donegal County Council in all the work they put into the submission which involved engagement with NPWS as well as other stakeholders over the last number of years.

I look forward to a successful funding application process now that everything is in order. Department officials are aware of this application and are aware of the challenges which faced this application over the years.

I also want to acknowledge the local people who helped in any way to get it to this stage, including former Councillor Noel Mc Bride and Údarás na Gaeltachta who supported this process too

Make the most of the last bank holiday and head to the coast in . Blow away the cobwebs and hit the reset button for the last few weeks of the year. How? Start by wrapping up and walking the stunning Tra Mor beach in Downings, captured beautifully by local photographer Rita Wilson Photography (her pieces would make a great gift this Christmas!)

A day to fill? No bother! Enjoy the many fine places to eat and drink in Carrigart, Glen or Downings. Here’s a few to check out but call in advance to check opening hours:

Beach Hotel Downings
Downings Bay Hotel
Carrigart One 8
Fisk Seafood Bar
Hooked at Donegal Boardwalk
The Singing Pub
View Bar and Restaurant
Olde Glen Bar and Restaurant
