We've seen a rise in cases of acorn poisoning so far this week. This is a bumper year for acorns and stormy weather has caused them to fall earlier and in bulk.

Signs to look out for:
• Dullness and lethargy
• Off feed
• Constipation followed by diarrhoea
• Dark tarry faeces
• Reduced urination

Clinical signs often occur 2-5 days post-ingestion of acorns. Unfortunately there is no specific treatment or cure - with significant kidney damage progressing to death.

Minimising risk is key!
• Move stock out of high risk pasture
• Ensure enough grass coverage or provide additional forage

If you have any concerns please phone the practice on 01555 660000 or 01786 231199.
