One day of neutering with a rescue group in Co. Limerick

I was talking with my dear friend Andrea the vet this morning, and we were reminiscing about all the years we spent together doing "TNR" of feral cats. (TNR means trap, neuter and return, and it's a kind practice done all over the world for street cats.)

I actually feel so emotional. My heart feels really full. It was so, so hard to make the decision to leave that part of my life behind. And when I drive around the city and county and pass the locations where our group volunteered with cats, I feel such bittersweet memories, and gratitude too.

I will always hold in my heart the just amazingly kind people I met "through the cats." Having brought that joy with me into my new life is such a balm. People who often hadn't a penny to their name and really struggled, but who loved these cats and gave them all they could afford.

Photos like this one still bring me such happiness. This is a farmer I met outside Newcastlewest. I went there and I think there were about thirteen cats there to neuter. And one was tame. Here I see her happy upright tail, and I see the happiness on his face as he gives this little stray a piece of chicken. ❤ He'd found her in a car park in the town, and brought her home. He saw a little tattoo in her ear, and didn't know what that meant. His son in Canada researched it online, and told his dad it meant this little cat had been neutered already. That made my heart fit to burst, that someone had cared about her to do that. And as I was passionate about the importance of neutering (and I still am) I was so delighted!

It’s hard to believe, but this Christmas marks 10 years of Arra Veterinary Clinic.
Ten years of wagging tails, purrs, muddy paws, gentle goodbyes, joyful new beginnings, and the privilege of caring for your pets and being part of your families’ lives. 💜

To celebrate this special milestone, we’re combining two very exciting things…

🎅 Our annual Santa Paws event
📸 Festive pet photos, treats & community fun
🐾 Fun family activities and awards

…and…

🦷✨ The official opening of our new state-of-the-art Dental Suite, helping us continue to raise the standard of care for your pets for the next decade and beyond.

Whether you’ve been with us from the early days or joined us along the way, thank you for trusting us with your beloved animals. This practice has grown because of you — your support, your kindness, your recommendations, and the love you have for your pets.

And to our incredible team — past and present — you are the heart of Arra. I’m so proud of what we have built together. 💜

We can’t wait to celebrate with you all.
Santa Paws bookings open soon for professional photo shoot— keep an eye out! 🎄🐶🐱

Here’s to ten years, and many more to come.
With gratitude,

🐾 Georgia & her Jack Russell Taming Skills 🐾
This little lady — aptly named Monkey — needed a bit of calm reassurance for her vaccination
Luckily, Georgia has a magic touch with nervous small dogs, and Monkey settled beautifully once she was up in her arms.

For dogs who struggle with the vet visit, the gentle relaxing medication we can prescribe before the appointment makes a huge difference. Monkey’s owner finds it really helps keep her calm, and today was no exception 💙

Happy pet, calm visit, stress-free experience — just how we like it.
