From today Monday 11th I will fully comply with department of agriculture, food and marine guidelines to house all poultry under my care again towards the avain influenenza that's an ongoing problem.
Its such a sad day for them all as they will miss the space and freedom so much.
This is law and lockdown at the moment countrywide, and i cant tell how much it breaks my heart for these animals but we will do it to keep them safe. As regards egg sales its completely safe as my poultry are totally healthy and this is done as a precaution to them being infected. I do however predict the egg production will go down as their environmental norm will be totally disrupted.
Ive done all in my power to still give them roaming space, keep them enriched for feeding, scavaging and tried to mimick their every day lives to some normality.
The hardest ones are the geese and ducks who absolutely love their pond and swimming. I've come up with a plan, I hope I can create it, its a working progress and myself and loved ones have worked very hard over the weekend to make this possible for them to have an "indoor" outdoor and will keep you updated and show you how they live and are treated. The DAFM (as im registered as a flock keeper and a herd farm) have helped alot with how to correctly do this and all measures will be in place including all birds totally housed and where welfare comes into play completely meshed off, we will have footbaths gloves and masks to protect the flock of Diddly Squad. As I always say with dogs, share any enrichment ideas, as this is going to be a long hard time for them! I've some tricks up my sleeve and will share as much as I can.
Unfortunately I cannot for the time being call my eggs "free range, although under paperwork it says i can as is this is out of my hands but i want to be honest, there's very little i can do and wont lie their space is smaller. But I am doing the best in my power to have them all have as decent life as I can for the foreseeable. 😔
